According to Ken Chamitoff, producer of the film and president of Red Canvas Film Productions, “We are extremely excited to host our first live ‘Art of Submission 1’ MMA event in San Jose, California. The bout card is stacked with compelling professional and amateur match-ups and features some of the area’s top MMA talent. We are equally excited about the theatrical release of our full length MMA film, ‘Art of Submission’, following the event. Fans will not be disappointed!”

The ‘Art of Submission 1’ main event features a compelling welterweight match-up between two dynamic fighters. Strikeforce veteran Lucas Gamaza (5-3), who trains out of the Cesar Gracie/Nick Diaz camp, will step into the cage to face Fight Factory’s Wayne Phillips. Phillips (5-5) is a fierce competitor that trains out of San Jose's AKA gym under kickboxing legend Javier Mendez. This is a very significant bout, as both fighters are looking to redeem themselves after recent losses. The main event promises to be an action packed fight from start to finish!

In the Co-Main event, two explosive female fighters, undefeated Muay Thai champion Miriam Nakamoto and SikJitsu’s Elizabeth Phillips, will make their pro MMA debuts. Poised to take the MMA world by storm, Nakamoto (15-0-0 Muay Thai) first gained recognition as a cast member on the Fight Girls reality show in 2007. She is now regarded by many as one of the top pound-for-pound female strikers in combat sports. Her opponent Elizabeth Phillips (3-1-1 amateur MMA), who has gone the distance in all but one of her bouts, has one goal in mind - to stop the Muay Thai phenom before she even gets started.
