Moks Captures Middleweight Gold and ‘Submission of the Night’ Honors at M-1 Challenge XXII

(PRESS RELEASE) -- In what would be considered the most exciting upset at M-1 Challenge XXII last Friday night from the Druzhba arena in Moscow, Russia, Rafal ‘Kulturysta’ Moks overcame his underdog status in epic fashion to capture the first-ever M-1 Challenge middleweight title. Fans who blinked missed the action as it took the talented Polish fighter and Berserkers team member a mere 19 seconds to dispose of karate and kick-boxing world champion and veteran M-1, Dream and K-1 Hero’s fighter, Magomed Sultanakhmedov with a tendon-tearing heel-hook. The short-lived contest was more than enough to earn Submission of the Night honors and leave Sultanakhmedov shocked and speechless in the middle of the ring.

Fans watched as a stunned Sultanakhmedov sat idle on the canvass for several minutes after the bout as he seemingly replayed the seconds over and over in his head trying to figure out what happened or to wake himself from his horrible nightmare. But with every contest, there is a winner and a loser and Friday night was Moks’ shining moment as the M-1 Global executive brass placed the belt around his waist; the sold out crowd and fans who tuned in to the live stream or Russian Federal TV watched as Moks proudly sported his new fashion accessory.

With the victory, Moks improves to 6-2 and becomes the first-ever M-1 Challenge middleweight champion and sits at the top of his division that has a deep and talented pool of fighters eagerly vying for the opportunity to make his reign short lived. Sitting first in line to attempt to dethrone the newly crowned champ is American, Team Quest fighter, Tyson ‘The Anti-Hero’ Jeffries. The pair will meet early in 2011 as a headline bout on what will be yet another stacked M-1 Challenge card.

With M-1 Challenge champions established in all five weight classes, a true contenders system will fuel events throughout 2011, driving M-1 Global’s growth as a leading brand in the US and international markets.

2011 includes a full slate of M-1 Challenge events held in the United States and Europe. These are the mega-event spectaculars where Champions defend their titles and contenders jockey for position. Feeding the contention system will be two Selection tournaments in 2011 with details being announced shortly.
