Bangor's Travis Bartlett Back on Track, Ready to Compete at Fight Night V
Oct 5, 2012 Comments
(PRESS RELEASE) -- Lewiston, Maine (October 3, 2012) – New England
Fights! (NEF) is proud to announce a professional heavyweight
feature bout between Travis
Bartlett (8-2) and Randy Smith
(14-12-1) at Fight Night V on November 17, 2012 at The Androscoggin
Bank Colisee in Lewiston, Maine. Bartlett, a native of Bangor,
Maine and current resident of Nevada, will be fighting for the
first time ever in his home state.
"Travis Bartlett was originally scheduled to appear at Fight Night III back in June of this year," stated NEF co-owner and matchmaker Matt Peterson. "Shortly before that fight, Travis came down with a terrible illness that required hospitalization. Unfortunately, he was unable to make the trip and the fight was canceled. I know he was disappointed, as were his many fans in the state. We're really looking forward to having him make his NEF debut on November 17."
Bartlett began his mixed martial arts (MMA) career in 2007,
competing locally in New England at light heavyweight and capturing
a regional title before traveling to Las Vegas to train alongside
such high-profile Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veterans as
Wanderlei
Silva (35-12-1) and Frank Mir
(16-6). Bartlett's fight at Fight Night V will not only be his
debut in his native state of Maine, but it will also be his debut
in the heavyweight division, a division his opponent, Randy Smith,
has competed in for over five years now. Smith was last seen in NEF
in the main event of Fight Night III, losing to Tim Sylvia
(31-7) via first-round knock-out.
“That fight wasn't indicative of what Randy Smith can do, and has done, in the cage," said NEF co-owner and promoter Nick DiSalvo of the Sylvia bout last June. "I've followed Randy's career for some time now, and I've seen him come out victorious in some real heavyweight wars. He didn't win championships and rise to the rank of number four in the Northeast by accident. Fans should come to the Colisee on November 17 expecting to see a heavyweight bloodbath. If you like to watch the big guys stand-and-bang, then you can't miss this fight!"
"I am happy to be fighting Randy for my first fight in Maine," stated Bartlett when reached for comment. "Randy is one of those veteran fighters who always shows up to fight regardless of the opponent. This fight should be a real crowd pleaser!"
