ADIDAS ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH GLORY FIGHTER WAYNE BARRETT

(PRESS RELEASE) -- NEW YORK/PORTLAND, Ore - adidas today announced a partnership with Wayne Barrett, the number two ranked fighter in Glory’s middleweight division.

The new partnership will provide world-class training equipment to Barrett as he continues to improve his craft as a kick boxer.

Barrett was last seen competing on Glory’s first foray into Pay-Per-View (PPV) titled “Glory 17: Last Man Standing” which meant to crown the first Middleweight champion in the promotion’s history. Though he was unable to take home the championship, Barrett once again proved to be one of the best middleweights in the sport of kickboxing.

“When I started to fight, the biggest thing that drove me was being around those that have been through the fire and still stood tall. When adidas offered me to chance to be part of the family, I knew that this was a company that would stand by me as an athlete,” said Wayne “Afro Samurai” Barrett. “Remaking yourself and staying ahead of the competition is what a fighter has to do in order to be on top. adidas has long been a force behind the world of combat sports and martial arts and continues to stay on top of its game. I plan on doing the same.”

“Wayne Barrett is one of the most talented athletes I have ever known in my life or career. His intelligence, vision, fluidity, grace, movement, timing and power make him one of the most devastating strikers on the planet,” said Scott Viscomi, Managing Director of adidas Combat Sports USA. “In addition to being an elite kick boxer and muay thai fighter, the guy is a complete gentlemen, a great training partner, and a gifted motivational speaker. adidas combat sports is very excited to have the “Afro Samurai” on our team."

"I truly believe Wayne will reach the pinnacle of his sport, so it is only fitting he is partnered with a top brand in its industry,” said David Fish, representative for Wayne Barrett. “In addition, it makes life easy when dealing with professionals like Scott Viscomi and the adidas family.”

Barrett, 6’2” and 185 lbs., holds a professional kickboxing record of 5-1, is the number two ranked Middleweight in Glory, the largest kickboxing promotion in the world. He’s stopped four opponents, including Bogdan Stoica at Glory 17. Barrett also holds a Unanimous Decision victory over Joe Schilling.

Barrett started his professional career with three straight (T)KO victories. Those quick victories earned him a shot against Glory 10 Middleweight tournament champion, Joe Schilling. Barrett shocked the kickboxing world when he took home a Unanimous Decision that night.

Wayne Barrett joins renowned Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner Clark Gracie and UFC welterweight contender Robbie Lawler on the adidas global combat sports team. adidas Combat Sports is a proud equipment sponsor of the Resurrection Fighting Alliance (RFA) and the adidas National Boxing Tournament in conjunction with the Oxnard Police Activities League. adidas is also a multiple year sponsor of Olympic Judo, Boxing, and Tae Kwon Do, as well as of the European Judo Union.
