A lightweight tilt pitting Yancy Medeiros against Yves Edwards has been added to the UFC Fight Night 31 “Fight for the Troops 3” lineup.
The promotion announced the booking Sunday. UFC Fight Night 31 takes place at Fort Campbell in Hopkinsville, Ky. on Nov. 6 and is headlined by a middleweight showdown between Lyoto Machida and Tim Kennedy. The card, which also features a lightweight duel between Rustam Khabilov and Jorge Masvidal, will air on Fox Sports 1.
After a nearly three-year hiatus, Medeiros returned to the cage at UFC 159, where he lost to Khabilov via first-round TKO. The bout was halted when the Hawaiian suffered a gruesome thumb dislocation while defending a takedown from his Russian opponent. Prior to that, “Frisson” was unbeaten in his first nine professional appearances, including a pair of triumphs under the Strikeforce banner.
Edwards has lost back-to-back split decisions, falling to Isaac Vallie-Flagg at UFC 156 before coming up short against Daron Cruickshank at UFC on Fox 8. The 36-year-old “Thugjitsu Master” has 63 professional bouts under his belt and owns notable wins over Jeremy Stephens, Hermes Franca, Josh Thomson and Aaron Riley, among others.
