Villefort will join his older brother, Danillo
Villefort, on the fight card for Strikeforce
Challengers 16, as the younger Brazilian will meet Travis Bush
in a preliminary welterweight duel. Villefort’s management
announced the news Wednesday morning.
“I’ve been training my whole life and this will be my first fight on a big stage,” Villefort stated in a release. “On June 24, I will be 100 percent ready, and -- one way or another -- I will end this fight and give fans what they came to see.”
Headlined by a lightweight scrap between prospects Caros Fodor
and James Terry,
Strikeforce Challengers 16 goes down June 24 at the ShoWare Center
in Kent, Wash.
Owner of a 6-0 pro record, Villefort will make his Strikeforce debut at the event. The 20-year-old has gone the distance only once in his two-year career, submitting three foes along the way. Villefort most recently submitted Jason Fitzhugh with an armbar on June 4.
The reigning SportFight lightweight champion, Bush has won three of his last four contests. The Lyle Beerbohm training partner began his career in 2006 and holds a 2007 victory over current SportFight featherweight king Enoch Wilson. In his last appearance, Bush rebounded from a defeat to Nathan Coy to earn a unanimous decision over John Heath in August.
