Younger Njokuani Intends to Prove Himself in MMA, Muay Thai

Chidi Njokuani may currently be known to most MMA fans as the little brother of UFC talent Anthony Njokuani, but he doesn't plan on perpetuating that label.

Roughly ten years the younger of his brother, Njokuani is also a standup specialist and owns four of his five MMA victories by knockout. On Saturday, however, the fighter will return to the muay Thai ring to take on Canadian Ken Tran at Lion Fight Promotions' “Desert Fight 4.” Sanctioned by the World Boxing Council, the event emanates from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and streams live on GFL.tv.

As he readies himself to return to the realm of pure standup, Njokuani says that a casual career in muay Thai does not need to detract from his mixed martial arts aspirations.

“Muay Thai has always been my first passion and it's also still fun to do,” Njokuani told Sherdog.com on Thursday. “So I don't mind taking a fight every once in a while to stay busy.”

According to the four-year MMA pro, he has no definitive plans regarding his standup career. Njokuani's ultimate goal remains to follow in the footsteps of his brother and sign with a large MMA promotion.

“I really don't know how long I plan to compete in muay Thai,” said Njokuani. “I'm really trying to make a name for myself in MMA, but until I get the chance to sign with any major MMA companies, I'm always down to take a muay Thai fight. Also, winning a muay Thai belt wouldn't be so bad either.”

Though he hopes to emulate his brother's success in the MMA arena, Njokuani does not wish to walk in his shadow. Instead, he hopes to be known as his brother's equal -- one half of a successful tag team.

“I've always looked up to my brother, but I wanna make a name for myself too,” said Njokuani. “It would be pretty nice to be noticed as the 'Njokuani Brothers' instead of Anthony and his little brother, you know?”
