World Series of Fighting Acquires Nevada License, Eyes Nov. 3 Event on NBC Sports Network

The World Series of Fighting has been granted a promoter’s license in the state of Nevada.

Keith Kizer, executive director of the Nevada Athletic Commission, confirmed the news to Sherdog.com on Tuesday. Kizer also verified that the WSOF has requested to host its first event on Nov. 3. MMAWeekly.com first reported the development on Monday.

The Las Vegas-based promotion formed last October, though the organization’s debut has since been delayed. Former K-1 standout Ray Sefo is expected to serve as the promotion’s president, and events will be held at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. While sources told Sherdog.com this past spring that the WSOF was expected to debut with an eight-man lightweight tournament, that plan has not been officially announced by the promotion.

The organization did, however, announce plans to air its events on the NBC Sports Network -- formerly known as Versus -- in its written request for NAC approval regarding its Nov. 3 event. Kizer told Sherdog that the request will be placed on the commission’s September agenda. The WSOF is also expected to reveal more specifics about the event at a press conference in the coming weeks, according to a source close to the promotion.
