White Kicks Daley Out of UFC

UFC President Dana White made it clear that the strike Paul Daley threw at Josh Koscheck long after the bell following their UFC 113 bout will cost Daley his UFC career.

“He’s done,” White said at the UFC 113 postfight news conference. “I don’t give a s--t if he’s the best 170-pounder in the world. He’ll never come back here again.”

Koscheck outwrestled Daley to win all three rounds of their welterweight title eliminator. The fight ended in Daley’s half guard. The horn sounded, and Koscheck stood and separated. Daley followed him and threw a left hook.

“It landed,” Koscheck said later. “It was probably his best punch of the fight.”

Koscheck, who improved to 15-4 and likely earned the next shot at champion Georges St-Pierre, acknowledged that he had whispered something into Daley’s ear during the last minute of the fight. He wouldn’t share what he said, but he did admit “it wasn’t very polite.” Koscheck also said Daley eye-gouged him “a couple times” and that he was “having trouble seeing out of my right eye from his fingers.”

White had been impressed with Daley’s performance until he saw a “sucker punch.”

“I’m probably one of the most lenient guys in sports,” White said. “And this is probably one of the most lenient organizations. We’re all human, we all mistakes, things happen. There’s no excuse for that. These guys are professional athletes. You don’t ever hit a guy blatantly after the bell like that whether you’re frustrated or not. It was probably one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen.”

White said Daley told him after the fight that he hadn’t heard the bell.

“I don’t care if he fights in every show all over the world and becomes the best and everybody thinks he’s the pound-for-pound best in the world,” White said. “He will never fight in the UFC ever again.”
