Welterweight contenders Robbie Lawler and Matt Brown will headline the UFC’s summer return to San Jose, Calif.
UFC President Dana White announced Tuesday that the hard-hitting 170-pounders will top UFC on Fox 12, which takes place July 26 at SAP Center. The show will also see Anthony Johnson collide with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at light heavyweight, while Josh Thomson meets Michael Johnson in a pivotal lightweight duel.
Lawler dominated Jake Ellenberger on Saturday at UFC 173, stopping “The Juggernaut” with third-round strikes to pick up his fourth win since returning to the UFC last year. “Ruthless” unsuccessfully challenged for the vacant UFC welterweight title in March, coming up short against Johny Hendricks in a hard-fought unanimous decision loss at UFC 171.
Brown rides a seven-fight winning streak into his clash with Lawler, most recently dispatching Erick Silva two weeks ago in a wild UFC Fight Night main event. “The Immortal” posted back-to-back victories last year and was expected to face Carlos Condit in December before a back injury forced him to withdraw from the matchup.
