Former UFC heavyweight title contender Jeff Monson posted his sixth consecutive victory, as he submitted Lee Mein with a first-round guillotine choke in the Cage Fight Manitoba “Monson vs. Mein” main event on Friday at the Winnipeg Convention Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The end came 3:31 into round one.

The 5-foot-9, 239-pound Monson, who turns 40 in a little more than a week, again showed his superiority on the mat, as he delivered the 26th submission win of his career.

Mein twice reversed position on Monson before “The Snowman” locked up a topside guillotine choke for the tapout. A two-time winner of the Abu Dhabi Submission Wrestling World Championships, Monson holds notable wins over six-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Marcio Cruz, former UFC heavyweight titleholder Ricco Rodriguez and “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 winner Roy Nelson.

Other winners at the CFM event included Cory Houston (first-round technical knockout against Mike O'Neil), Martin Trendota (first-round guillotine choke submission over Chris Cunningham) and David Macmillan (first-round TKO against Leo Constant). All nine bouts ended in a finish, seven of them inside one round.

Leggett Scores First-Round TKO

World Extreme Cagefighting veteran Sherron Leggett stopped Dennis Anderson on first-round punches in a featured matchup at Combat USA 24 on Thursday at the Oneida Casino in Green Bay, Wis. Anderson, a Freestyle Combat challenge alum, met his demise 1:56 into round one.

Leggett has recorded four wins in a row, three of them finishes, since he lost a split decision to WEC lightweight king Anthony Pettis under the Gladiators Cage Fighting banner in 2008. The 32-year-old, his resume bolstered by victories against Nik Lentz and “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 12 semi-finalist Kyle Watson, was cut by Zuffa LLC brass in wake of his WEC 29 defeat to Jamie Varner. Leggett has posted a 6-1 mark since.

Other winners at the Combat USA show included Josh Kasee (first-round knockout against Chris Befera), Gerald Meerschaert (second-round guillotine choke submission over Dallas O’Malley) and Lenny Nelson (first-round triangle choke submission against Bobby Galvin). Meerschaert will carry a seven-fight winning streak into his next appearance.

Herb Submission Extends Streak

M-1 Challenge alum Gregor Herb needed a little more than a minute to submit David Radeff with a first-round armbar in the Fight Night Freiburg 3 headliner on Saturday at the Circolo in Freiburg, Germany. Radeff conceded defeat 62 seconds into round one.

Herb has pieced together a streak of three consecutive victories since his July decision defeat to Bellator Fighting Championships veteran Dragan Tesanovic. The 32-year-old German has secured eight of his nine career wins by submission.

Other winners at the Fight Night Freiburg event included Herb’s 22-year-old Turkish teammate, Hasan Tekkilic (first-round TKO against Krzysztof Koscielniak), and Gracie Barra Coelhao representative Max Friedrich (second-round armbar submission over Christian Mendez).
