Weekend Rundown: Linhares Choke Takes Out ‘Professor X’

Lucio Linhares won a battle between UFC exiles, as he submitted Xavier Foupa-Pokam with a second-round triangle choke in the 100% Fight 4 main event on Saturday at Carpentier Hall in Paris. Foupa-Pokam surrendered to the choke 2:53 into round two.

Linhares used a five-fight winning streak -- including wins over Karl Amoussou, Sean Salmon and Mikhail Zayats -- as a springboard into the Octagon, but he failed to make the most of the opportunity. He was pruned from the UFC roster following consecutive defeats to Brazilian leg lock connoisseur Rousimar Palhares at UFC 107 and the world-ranked Yushin Okami at UFC Fight Night 21. The 37-year-old has rattled off back-to-back wins since, both of them finishes.

Foupa-Pokam has fallen on the hardest of times. The 28-year-old Frenchman has dropped three fights in a row, all of them by submission.

Other winners at 100% Fight 4 included M-1 Challenge veteran Gael Grimaud (first-round guillotine choke submission against Gary Kono and unanimous decision over Seydina Seck), French super heavyweight Marc Emmanuel (second-round keylock submission against Yassine Bando) and the unbeaten Yves Landu (unanimous decision over Araik Margarian).

Main Scores Submission at HFC 6

“The Ultimate Fighter” alum Andy Main submitted Bobby Reardanz with a second-round armbar in the Hoosier Fight Club 6 headliner on Friday at the Porter County Expo Center in Valparaiso, Ind. Reardanz, a King of the Cage veteran, met his demise 4:40 into round two.

Spawned by the AMA Fight Club in New Jersey, Main controlled much of the bout with superior grappling, but Reardanz reversed into top position in the second round. Main -- who qualified for Season 12 of “The Ultimate Fighter” before being defeated by Kyle Watson in the Round of 16 -- threatened first with an attempted triangle choke and then moved to the fight-ending armbar for the finish. It was his third submission victory in six sanctioned appearances.

Meanwhile, Steve Berger protégé Barb Honchak outpointed Bellator Fighting Championships veteran Felice Herrig by unanimous decision in a featured women’s bout. The setback ended a two-fight winning streak for Herrig, an accomplished kickboxer who once competed inside Chuck Norris’ World Combat League.

Other winners at Hoosier Fight Club 6 included H.I.T. Squad representative Edward Smith (split decision over Aaron Noel), World Extreme Cagefighting veteran Joe Benoit (first-round submission against Ken Jackson) and Duneland Classic alum Tony Wisniewski (third-round knockout over Robbie Nieto). Wisniewski has posted six wins in seven fights.

Quick Hits: UFC veteran Forrest Petz earned a decision victory over Herbert “Whisper” Goodman in the Ultimate Cage Battles “Pride and Glory” headliner on Saturday at the Ohio Nets Sports Complex in Parma, Ohio. Petz, 35, entered the match on the heels of back-to-back defeats to Daniel Roberts and Brian Foster inside the Octagon … Undefeated Brazilian prospect Wagner Prado scored a unanimous decision victory against Cleber Tavares at X-Fight MMA 1 on Saturday at the Team Nogueira Training Center in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Prado had never before gone the distance, having finished his first four professional foes by knockout or technical knockout … UFC veteran Roli Delgado stunned Turan Hasanov by unanimous decision in a professional muay Thai bout on Friday in New York City. Hasanov, a professional muay Thai fighter, had boasted openly about not training hard for Delgado in advance of the bout. The Arkansas-based Delgado went 1-2 during his brief stint in the UFC and was a quarter-finalist on Season 8 of “The Ultimate Fighter.”
