WSOF 4 Medicals: ‘JZ’ Cavalacante, Five Others Face 6-Month Suspensions

Six fighters from Saturday’s WSOF 4 card are facing possible six-month suspensions.

WSOF 4 took place at Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif., and was headlined by Tyrone Spong’s second professional MMA victory, as the “King of the Ring” captured a unanimous decision against Angel DeAnda in a light heavyweight matchup. The California State Athletic Commission on Monday released medical suspension information from the event.

Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante, who stopped Tyson Griffin in the third round with punches from back mount in a preliminary lightweight scrap, could be out for as long as 180 days unless his knee injury is cleared by a physician. Griffin, meanwhile, faces the same suspension after suffering a neck injury.

Additionally, Gerald Harris could be out up to six months for a possible hand fracture suffered in a unanimous decision win over Jorge Santiago. Also facing half a year on the shelf are preliminary-card competitors Antonio McKee, John Robles and Victor Valenzuela.

WSOF Medical Suspensions:

Brandon Hempleman: Suspended 60 days with no contact during training for 60 days due to a forehead laceration, unless cleared early by a physician

Ray Sefo: Suspended 45 days with no contact during training for 30 days for precautionary reasons

Gesias Cavalcante: Suspended 180 days with no contact during training for 180 days due to a knee injury, unless cleared early by a physician

Tyson Griffin: Suspended 180 days with no contact during training for 180 days due to a neck injury, unless cleared early by a physician

Gerald Harris: Suspended 180 days with no contact during training for 180 days due to a possible hand fracture, unless cleared early by a physician

Lewis Gonzales: Suspended 60 days with no contact during training for 60 days due to an eyelid laceration, unless cleared early by a physician

Antonio McKee: Suspended 180 days with no contact during training for 180 days due to vision loss in his right eye, unless cleared early by a neurologist

John Robles: Suspended 180 days with no contact during training for 180 days due to possible shoulder, knee and elbow injuries, unless cleared early by a physician

Victor Valenzuela: Suspended 180 days with no contact during training for 180 days due to a possible knee injury, unless cleared early by a physician
