With a championship doubleheader already in tow, World Extreme
Cagefighting has put the finishing touches on a rock-solid
nine-fight bill for WEC 36 on Sept. 10 at the Seminole Hard Rock
Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Fla.
The Zuffa-led promotion made official the already widely rumored match between featherweight bangers Jens Pulver (Pictures) and Leonard Garcia (Pictures), along with a bout pairing hot lightweight prospect Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone (Pictures) with former WEC 155-pound champion “Razor” Rob McCullough (Pictures).
Also confirmed were the promotional debuts for former Oklahoma
State University standouts Jake Rosholt and Johny Hendricks.
The two multiple-time NCAA wrestling champions have emerged as coveted prospects under the Team Takedown banner and will look to follow in the footsteps of teammate Shane Roller, who made a successful WEC debut on Aug. 3 with a first-round submission victory over Todd Moore (Pictures). Rosholt will meet American Top Team standout Danilo Villefort at 185 pounds, while Hendricks takes on a tall order in Alex Serdyukov (Pictures) in a 170-pound tilt.
Additional undercard action will see Florida grappling standout David Avellan meet rugged veteran Tim McKenzie (Pictures) in a middleweight affair. Dynamic striker Ed Ratcliff (Pictures) will take on Urijah Faber (Pictures) pupil Danny Castillo (Pictures) at 155 pounds, and, in a battle of former bantamweight title challengers, grappling all-star Rani Yahya (Pictures) will collide with Pancrase poster boy Yoshiro Maeda (Pictures).
WEC 36 will be co-headlined by a pair of championship bouts, as Faber defends his featherweight crown against Mike Thomas Brown (Pictures) and undefeated Paulo Filho (Pictures) risks his middleweight belt in a rematch against Chael Sonnen (Pictures).
