Vitor Belfort, Michael Bisping on Point for UFC on FX 7 Main Event

Vitor Belfort took his shot at the Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight crown two years ago. Now, Michael Bisping wants his.

Bisping checked in at 186 pounds for his UFC on FX 7 main event against Belfort (185) on Saturday at the Ibirapuera Arena in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The six other fighters answering the bell for main card duty, including co-headliners C.B. Dollaway (186) and Daniel Sarafian (186), also met their contracted weights without issue at Friday’s official weigh-in.

On the cusp of a title shot he has long sought, Bisping has recorded five wins in his past six outings. “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 3 winner last appeared at UFC 152 in September, when he cruised to a unanimous decision over former World Extreme Cagefighting champion Brian Stann at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. The 33-year-old Bisping has been finished only once -- Dan Henderson’s right hand leveled him at UFC 100 -- in his 27-fight career.

Belfort returns to the middleweight division for the first time since his failed bid to unseat 205-pound boss Jon Jones four months ago. The 35-year-old Brazilian has compiled a 7-2 mark in his last nine bouts, including wins over Anthony Johnson, former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin and 2000 Olympic silver medalist Matt Lindland. A devastating striker blessed with blinding hand speed, Belfort has secured 14 of his 21 career victories by knockout or technical knockout. His 10 defeats have come against some of MMA’s most accomplished competitors: Jones, Henderson, Anderson Silva, Tito Ortiz, Chuck Liddell, Kazushi Sakuraba, Alistair Overeem (twice) and Randy Couture (twice).

UFC on FX 7 “Belfort vs. Bisping” -- which airs on the FX network at 9 p.m. ET/PT -- will also feature a heavyweight clash pitting Gabriel Gonzaga (255) against Ben Rothwell (258) and a lightweight tilt matching Thiago Tavares (155) with unbeaten Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov (155).

Three hours prior, Fuel TV will carry four preliminary bouts: Godofredo Castro (145) vs. Milton Vieira (146), Ronny Markes (186) vs. Andrew Craig (185), Diego Nunes (145) vs. Nik Lentz (145) and Edson Barboza (154) vs. Lucas Martins (154). The three remaining matchups will stream live to the UFC’s Facebook page at 5:35 p.m. ET/2:35 p.m. PT, as Iuri Alcantara (135) faces Pedro Nobre (136), Wagner Prado (206) meets Ildemar Alcantara (201) and Francisco Trinaldo (154.5) tackles C.J. Keith (*156).
