Vasyl Lomachenko Makes Nicholas Walters Quit in HBO Boxing Main Event

Roberto Duran was one of the greatest fighters that ever lived and even to this day, the Panamanian legend has not been able to live down his infamous “No Mas” incident in his rematch with “Sugar” Ray Leonard. It’s likely that Nicholas Walters will have different luck moving forward after what happened at the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas (online betting).

In the main event of an HBO-televised championship bout with Vasyl Lomachenko on Saturday night, Walters quit on his stool in between rounds seven and eight because he was thoroughly out-classed and couldn’t get anything going. Lomachenko, who won two Olympic gold medals and is considered by many as the greatest amateur boxer in history, perplexed the Jamaican from the start with is masterful movement and precision punching. Lomachenko was perfect inside the ropes and tagged his foe whenever he wanted from any angle he wanted and Walters eventually folded mentally.

Lomachenko (7-1, 5 KOs) boxed circles around Walters in what the first defense of his WBO super featherweight title; it was so one-sided that Walters (26-1-1, 21 KOs) became demoralized as the fight wore on. Lomachenko drilled the former WBA featherweight champ late in the seventh with a flurry to the head and he was buzzed, though Walters remained on his feet until the end of the round. It was then, before the eighth began, that Walters did exactly what Duran did in 1980 and quit on his stool.

The win allowed the two-division world champ to retain his title and though he currently reigns at 130 pounds, is already rumored to be possibly fighting welterweight icon Manny Pacquiao in 2017, though talks of that fight are premature.
