Urijah Faber Planning to Launch New Team Alpha Male Facility in Conjunction with Retirement Bout

Team Alpha Male will unveil a sparkling new 20,000 square foot facility in conjunction with founder Urijah Faber’s last bout at UFC on Fox 22 on Dec. 17.

“The market is shifting from strictly two- or three-dimensional MMA facilities, to multi-faceted training facilities that encompass everything a modern athlete needs to succeed,” Faber said in a release.

“What worked 10 years ago, when we opened our first gym, won’t cut it in today’s market. Everything needs to be optimized to provide a true one-stop shop type of atmosphere,” Faber continued. “We’ll have over 6,000 square feet of mat space and an additional 14,000sqft of custom gym amenities. There’s public and TAM private locker rooms, a health bar and Wi-Fi lounge, a sauna, a raised cage, several workout areas including a covered outdoor portion, and even a kid’s area. We’ve also partnered with companies like Everlast to really build out our fighter evolution platforms. This is the future; not only for our fight team development, but for the gym industry as a whole.”

The new gym will remain in Sacramento, Calif., but will be significantly larger than Team Alpha Male’s previous 9,000 square foot location. According to gym CEO Josh Epsley, the facility is scheduled to open sometime around Dec. 17, when Faber faces Brad Pickett at UFC on Fox 22 in Sacramento. “The California Kid” recently announced that the clash with Pickett would be his final fight.

Whether the gym opens before or after Faber’s fight remains uncertain. When the new location is officially open, the original Team Alpha Male location will close its doors.

The current Team Alpha Male coaching staff is headed by Justin Buchholz, Danny Castillo and Chris Holdsworth. Prominent current members of the camp include Cody Garbrandt, Paige VanZant, Chad Mendes and Andre Fili, to name a few. Team Alpha Male was also the home of ex-UFC bantamweight champ T.J. Dillashaw when he first captured the 135-pound belt.
