Silva was arrested Thursday night after allegedly threatening people with a gun at the Pablo Popovitch Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., according to a report from the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel. The 31-year-old is currently being held without bail by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
The native Brazilian began his UFC career in 2007 on the strength of nine consecutive victories. Silva would then post four more wins inside the Octagon but struggled to stay healthy, posting a record of 1-3 with two no-contests brought on by failed drug tests. Nevertheless, Silva earned back-to-back victories in 2013, knocking out Rafael Cavalcante in June before outpointing Matt Hamill this past October.
Silva was expected to face Ovince St. Preux next month at UFC 171, but that matchup has clearly been scratched. UFC officials have not yet announced whether a replacement opponent is being sought for “OSP.”
