Update: Hardy, Lytle Hit Marks for UFC Live 5

At the start of 2010, Dan Hardy was the No. 1 contender for the Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight crown. Nearly 17 months later, he finds himself on the verge of possible termination.

Hardy initially missed weight at 171.5 pounds for his showdown with Chris Lytle (170.5) in the UFC Live 5 headliner on Sunday at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. However, Hardy successfully made weight (170) on his second attempt to put the stamp on the card's main event. The six other men given main card marching orders, including co-headliners Jim Miller (155.5) and Benson Henderson (156), also met their mandated weight requirements without incident at Saturday’s official weigh-in.

Hardy (Pictured, File Photo) will carry a three-fight losing streak into the match. The 29-year-old Team Rough House representative last appeared at UFC Fight Night 24 in March, when he came out on the wrong end of a one-sided unanimous decision defeat to Anthony Johnson at the Key Arena in Seattle. A tae kwon do black belt and Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt, Hardy has secured more than half (15) of his 23 professional victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission. Wins over American Kickboxing Academy standout Mike Swick and Pride Fighting Championships veteran Akihiro Gono anchor his resume, which includes a 4-3 mark in the UFC.

Based at the Integrated Fighting Academy in his native Indianapolis, Lytle last competed at UFC 127 in February, when journeyman Brian Ebersole handed him a unanimous decision loss at the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia. The defeat snapped his four-fight winning streak, the longest of his career. A Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt with professional boxing experience, the 36-year-old has delivered 21 of his 30 mixed martial arts wins by submission. Lytle, a five-time “Fight of the Night” winner, owns notable victories over former UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra, Strikeforce veteran Pat Healy and “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 7 alum Matt Brown (twice). His 19 Octagon appearances rank sixth all-time.

The event -- which airs live on the Versus network at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT -- will also feature a welterweight duel pairing “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 7 winner Amir Sadollah (170) with Duane Ludwig (170.5) and a lightweight tilt pitting former WEC title contender Donald Cerrone (156) against once-beaten Brazilian prospect Charles Oliveira (155).
