Update: 135-Pound GP Official for Dream ‘Fight for Japan’

Dream's inaugural bantamweight grand prix has been given the green light, as the eight tournament competitors came in under their contracted weights prior to Sunday's “Fight for Japan” event.

The promotion's quest to crown its first bantamweight champion begins on May 27 at Saitama Super Arena Hall in Saitama, Japan, as the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds of the grand prix will take place. The opening round will feature four bouts, as Yoshiro Maeda (133.38) will meet Hideo Tokoro (134.38), and Yusaku Nakamura (132.72) throws down with Atsushi Yamamoto (133.82). Rounding out the quarterfinals will be Kenji Osawa (133.82) squaring off with Takafumi Otsuka (133.82), while Keisuke Fujiwara (134.48) locks horns with Masakazu Imanari (134.04).

Also scheduled for the event is a trio of intriguing featherweight scraps, as Caol Uno (143.3) toes the line against Akiyo Nishiura (142.86); Mitsuhiro Ishida (143.3) and Takeshi Inoue (143.3) tango with Joachim Hansen (143.3) and Koichiro Matsumoto (143.08), respectively.

Additionally, Dream 155-pound champion Shinya Aoki (153.8) will compete in one of two high-profile lightweight bouts, as he squares off with American Rich Clementi (154). Clementi initially came in at 154.76 pounds, but shed the extra poundage and successfully made weight at 4:20 p.m. local time.

Also at lightweight, Katsunori Kikuno (154.32) takes on Daisuke Nakamura (153.44).
