UFC to Broadcast in Mexico, Latin America with New Televisa Networks Distribution Deal

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has signed an exclusive broadcast agreement with Televisa Networks to bring UFC programming to 20 Spanish-speaking countries across Latin America, including Mexico.

Televisa will also launch a new, 24-hour UFC network solely dedicated to broadcasting the Las Vegas-based promotion’s content, including live events. The subscription-based channel is expected to launch near the end of this year and will also feature original programming, according to the official release.

“The launch of the UFC channel will be a game changer for our sport and its fans throughout Latin America. We are giving millions of fans across the region complete access to all our live events and programming for the first time,” said UFC Chairman Lorenzo Fertitta in the release. “UFC is the fastest growing sports organization in history. With the strength of Latin America’s premier media group, Televisa, the UFC channel will become the fastest-growing sports network in television history.”

The deal marks a big step for the UFC toward creating a larger presence in Latin America. The organization and media alike have often mentioned Mexico as a future UFC destination, especially in conjunction with a Cain Velasquez heavyweight title defense.

Televisa’s partnership with the UFC will see more than 35 live events per year broadcast on the new UFC channel, as well as fights from past UFC, Pride, WEC and Strikeforce events. The agreement will not include Brazil, as Globo already holds an exclusive broadcast deal with UFC.
