UFC on Fox 8 Weigh-In Results: Johnson, Moraga Cleared for Flyweight Title Tilt

John Moraga desires that which belongs to Demetrious Johnson: the Ultimate Fighting Championship flyweight crown.

AMC Pankration’s Johnson checked in at 124.5 pounds for his five-round title defense against Moraga (124.5) in the UFC on Fox 8 main event on Saturday at KeyArena in Seattle. Welterweight co-headliners Jake Ellenberger (171) and Rory MacDonald (170.5) also met their contracted weight requirements without issue at Friday’s official weigh-in.

Johnson will carry a three-fight winning streak into the cage. The 26-year-old Madisonville, Ky., native last appeared at UFC on Fox 6 in January, when he captured a unanimous decision over “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 14 winner John Dodson at the United Center in Chicago. A Matt Hume protégé, Johnson has compiled a 5-1-1 mark since joining the UFC as part of the World Extreme Cagefighting merger in 2011.

A 29-year-old Phoenix native, Moraga will enter the Octagon on the strength of seven consecutive victories. He last fought at UFC 155 in December, when he submitted Chris Cariaso with a third-round guillotine choke at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. A perfect 2-0 in the UFC, Moraga has held titles inside the Rage in the Cage and Trilogy Championship Fighting promotions. He has secured eight of his 13 career wins by knockout, technical knockout or submission. Moraga wrestled collegiately at Arizona State University.

UFC on Fox 8 “Johnson vs. Moraga” -- which airs on Fox at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT -- will also feature a welterweight duel pairing former EliteXC champion Robbie Lawler (170.5) with Bobby Voelker (170) and a women’s bantamweight scrap pitting Liz Carmouche (136) against Brazilian newcomer Jessica Andrade (134).

Three hours prior, the FX network will carry six preliminary bouts: Michael Chiesa (155.5) vs. Jorge Masvidal (*155), Danny Castillo (155) vs. Tim Means (*160), Melvin Guillard (155) vs. Mac Danzig (155), Yves Edwards (155) vs. Daron Cruickshank (156), Ed Herman (186) vs. Trevor Smith (185) and Julie Kedzie (135.5) vs. Germaine de Randamie (135). The two remaining undercard matchups will stream to the UFC’s Facebook page at 3:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. PT, as Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts export Aaron Riley (156) locks horns with Grudge Training Center’s Justin Salas (155) and “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 14 quarterfinalist John Albert (*137) faces MMA Lab representative Yaotzin Meza (136).
