David Mitchell vs. Simeon Thoresen

Round 1
Herb Dean is the referee for tonight’s first bout. The welterweights touch gloves and Mitchell starts pumping his jab, trying to move inside. Thoresen paws back with a jab and switches positions, taking the center of the cage and leg-kicking at Mitchell, who moves around the outside. Mitchell again tries to come inside and tie up, and gets pushed back. He clinches again and lands a few punches to the body before exiting. Thoresen sticks Mitchell with a jab and takes a body shot in return. Mitchell comes over the top with a straight right that lands clean, just misses with an uppercut. Now it’s Thoresen landing a straight right and a kicking out Mitchell’s leg with a low kick. Nice right hook from Thoresen, followed closely by a one-two. The Norwegian seems to smell blood and rushes in on Mitchell, landing another combo and then clinching “Daudi” into the fence. Mitchell gets free but Thoresen keeps after him with the punches, and now both men land punches. Mitchell swipes Thoresen’s face with a left hook and an uppercut. He times a Thoresen leg kick and counters with a right hand, gets inside and hits Thoresen with a few body blows before the round expires. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 Mitchell.

Round 2
Dave Mandel

Mitchell busted up Thoresen's left eye.
Mitchell charges in on Thoresen and puts him on the fence. Thoresen gets out, but Mitchell keeps throwing punches and a left hand clips Thoresen, whose legs go rubbery. Another couple punches and he’s falling to the ground, where Mitchell follows and immediately works to secure the back. His nose leaking blood, Thoresen sneaks out and puts Mitchell in his closed guard. Thoresen opens up his guard to create some space as Mitchell tries to pound him out from top position. A backhand from the bottom makes Mitchell drop back for a leglock.

It doesn’t work, so Mitchell goes to stand, giving Thoresen the opportunity to drive forward and hit a takedown of his own. Mitchell throws up his left leg, trying to sneak his shin underneath Thoresen’s chin for the gogoplata. Thoresen is hip to it and postures up, but Mitchell is able to sweep on top with 40 seconds remaining and finishes the round on top. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 Mitchell.

Round 3
Damage to Thoresen’s eye nearly has the fight stopped before the third round, but he’s allowed to continue. He’s able to put some punches on Mitchell early on, until Mitchell gets in close and puts him on the fence, then drags him to the ground. Thoresen rolls underneath, going for a leg, but Mitchell senses it and bails out. Mitchell kicks at Thoresen’s legs for a moment until allowing him back up. Mitchell counters a Thoresen kick with a hook, misses with an uppercut. Thoresen chops out Mitchell’s lead leg with another low kick, and Mitchell decides to pull guard. Thoresen follows him down and Mitchell throws up his legs for a triangle. Thoresen isn’t in danger from the choke, but Mitchell uses the position to punch Thoresen in his damaged eye a couple times. Now Mitchell transitions to an omoplata. Thoresen tries to step over and escape, stalls out a bit, but rolls through and gets free. He drives on a takedown at the bell but can’t get Mitchell down. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 Mitchell and the bout 30-27 Mitchell.

Official result: All three judges score the bout 30-27 for the winner by unanimous decision, David Mitchell.

Rafael Natal vs. Sean Spencer

Round 1
Robert Madrigal is the referee for this middleweight bout. Spencer rushes out to meet Natal in the center of the cage, but 30 seconds in, Spencer catches a finger in the eye. He takes a moment to recover, gets checked out by the doc and they’re back to work. Natal is on his bicycle, moving out of the way of the power punches of Spencer while trying to counter with leg kicks. Natal misses a spinning backfist but lands the low kick after it. Spencer ducks a punch and throws a counter left hook which drops Natal. The Brazilian is quickly back to his feet and again moving backward. He changes directions and comes forward to pop Spencer with a nice right hand on the cheek. Natal goes to clinch and gets pushed into the fence by Spencer, who quickly moves off. Natal lands a left, changes levels and puts Spencer on the floor at the base of the fence with 25 seconds left in the round. Time runs out as Natal drops punches and then goes to frame up a choke.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Natal
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Natal
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Natal

Round 2
Spencer is having trouble getting into striking range on Natal, who is switching between orthodox and southpaw stances as he peppers Spencer with leg kicks from the outside. Natal times a punch and changes levels to take Spencer down at the base of the fence again. Spencer scrambles back up but takes a knee to the breadbasket as Natal presses him against the cage. Natal gets double underhooks and trips the leg out from under Spencer, this time landing away from the fence in Spencer’s closed guard. Spencer is trying to wrap up Natal, possibly looking for a stand-up, but Natal is keeping busy enough with slams and short punches to the body to keep the fight on the ground. Spencer tries to escape and nearly gives up his back in the process. He turns over and Natal steps into full mount, but again only has about 20 seconds with which to work. Instead of pounding, Natal goes for a rear-naked choke; he gets it in deep, but Spencer is saved by the bell.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Natal
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Natal
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Natal

Round 3
D. Mandel

Natal (top) tapped out Spencer.
Natal tries to get inside on a single-leg but Spencer defends well. The next try goes better for the Brazilian, who slams Spencer to the floor and moves straight into side control, leaning from Spencer’s left to right. Natal traps Spencer’s left arm in the crucifix and starts drilling him with short elbows. After a few strikes, Spencer is bleeding and bucking, desperate to escape. Natal has him completely trapped, both arms pinned down, and referee Madrigal urges Spencer to improve his position. Natal tries a keylock on Spencer’s right arm, can’t get it and instead frames up an arm-triangle choke from full mount.

He bears down and Spencer has no choice but to tap out. Rafael Natal gets the submission win at 2:13 of the third round.

Mike Russow vs. Shawn Jordan

Round 1
Herb Dean is the referee for this bout. Russow wastes no time in trying for a takedown; he doesn’t get it but does manage to push Jordan into the fence. Jordan gets out but Russow chases him down with right hands that daze the big man. Russow manages to stay up but he’s bleeding underneath his left eye as Russow keeps the pressure on and tries to take the fight to the ground. Jordan gets off the fence but Russow chases after him and dazes him with more hard right hands before leaning him against the fence again. Russow backs off, waits for Jordan to come forward and lands the right hand again. Russow spends the final minute of the round trapping Jordan on the fence before backing up and adding a few more punches to his tally.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Russow
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Russow
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Russow

Round 2
D. Mandel

Jordan's finish of Russow was brutal.
Russow catches a finger in the eye early in the round but only needs a few seconds to recover. When they resume, Jordan starts to string combinations together. He keeps the punches coming, backing Russow into the fence and hitting a takedown. Jordan steps into full mount, then sinks in his hooks when Russow rolls and gives up his back. Russow shakes him off and rolls to his knees but still can’t get out from under Jordan, who socks his turtling man with right hands. Russow goes for a leglock and uses it to escape out the back door.

They stand and Russow catches Jordan in a front headlock, then pops him with a knee as Jordan’s hand comes off the canvas. Jordan hits another takedown with two minutes remaining. Jordan secures the back and starts dropping heavy punches on Russow, who’s not giving anything in return. Ref Dean has seen enough and steps in to save Russow at 3:48 of the second round.

Ryan Bader vs. Vladimir Matyushenko

Round 1
D. Mandel

Bader forced Matyushenko to tap quickly.
John McCarthy is the referee for this light heavyweight bout. Bader feints, twitches and changes levels on the relatively stationary Matyushenko, then comes forward to drop “The Janitor” with a left hook. Bader rushes in and grabs a modified guillotine, then falls to guard and cranks. Matyushenko doesn’t seem concerned at first and throws a punch to Bader’s body, but second later, Matyushenko taps out. The end comes just 50 seconds into the opening round -- the fastest submission at 205 pounds in UFC history, Joe Rogan tells Bader after the fight.

Pascal Krauss vs. Mike Stumpf

Round 1
Herb Dean is the referee for this welterweight bout. Krauss touches Stumpf’s chin with a long left hand and Stumpf answers with an outside leg kick. A couple more leg kicks from Stumpf and now Krauss is checking them. Krauss throws a few leg kicks of his own, but 90 seconds in, he has one caught and Stumpf takes him down. Stumpf tries to advance to side control, gets stuffed back to Krauss’ full guard. Krauss creates space, pushes Stumpf away and pops back up. Krauss lands a leaping uppercut and clinches to throw knees up the middle. Now it’s Krauss changing levels for a single-leg and getting stifled by Stumpf, who lands some nice right hands inside. Stumpf takes a front kick to the face which bloodies his nose. Krauss walks in on him and drops Stumpf with an uppercut, but Stumpf stays up and goes after a single-leg. Krauss defends it and finishes the round trying for a standing guillotine.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Krauss
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Krauss
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Krauss

Round 2
D. Mandel

Krauss cruised to a unanimous decision.
Krauss zaps Stumpf with a couple quick combinations, misses with another jumping uppercut. The next flashy uppercut lands, and Krauss is just racking up the shots on Stumpf, who is throwing less and less in return. Krauss ducks a slow left hand and takes Stumpf down, but Stumpf hits the switch and turns the tables, putting Krauss’ back against the fence with 3:00 on the clock. Stumpf works to pass to the side while Krauss throws elbows to the body from the seated position. Stumpf briefly threatens with a headlock but it only allows Krauss to post and get back to his feet.

Now it’s Krauss controlling the action on the fence, working knees and level elbows in the clinch. Stumpf punches his way out with a pair of hard right hands, dives on a takedown and gets caught in a headlock. Krauss gives him a few knees before grabbing underhooks and pressing Stumpf against the fence. Stumpf lands a leg kick and gets off the fence just as the round runs out.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Krauss
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Krauss
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Krauss

Round 3
Krauss snaps back Stumpf’s head with a lead uppercut and follows up with more long punches, backing Stumpf into the fence. Ref Dean calls a brief timeout for Stumpf to replace his fallen mouthpiece. Krauss lands a series of five or six hard right hooks but Stumpf still won’t go down. Chopping leg kicks from Krauss now and he tries another headlock when Stumpf shoots low. Krauss lands a couple knees from the position before releasing. Stumpf keeps coming forward, trying to throw hands, but Krauss is picking him off with counters and shutting down his takedown attempts. After a pair of long rights from Krauss land, Stumpf surprises with a couple nice punches of his own. When Stumpf’s next shot doesn’t work, he pulls guard. Down to the final minute and Krauss is riding it out on top, grinding on Stumpf with elbows and short punches. Stumpf swings his legs up for an armbar attempt at the last second; Krauss pulls out and should be on his way to a decision win.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Krauss (30-27 Krauss)
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Krauss (30-27 Krauss)
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Krauss (30-27 Krauss)

Clay Guida vs. Hatsu Hioki

Round 1
Robert Madrigal is the referee for this featherweight bout. Hioki throws a leg kick and has to back out of the way of Guida’s frantic punches. Guida gets inside to throw more shots, mostly catching Hioki on the shoulders. Guida lands a leg kick and Hioki counters with a right hook. Hioki scores with a clean uppercut as Guida steps in with his head down. A hook to the body lands for Hioki and now he’s got Guida moving backwards. Hioki is doing well to stay out of Guida’s range and stands “The Carpenter” up when Guida shoots in. Guida clinches behind a wide right hand, eats a punch to the body and gets pushed away. With 2:00 remaining in the round, Guida catches a leg and plows Hioki to the canvas. Hioki closes up guard, so Guida picks up his legs and tries to pass after dumping Hioki on his head. Hioki stays with it and gets to his knees with his back to the fence. Guida picks the ankle and brings Hioki back down, but Hioki gets back up with the help of a headlock. A couple knees land for Hioki before he lets go and Guida rushes at him again. Hioki backs him off with a couple long punches before the horn.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Hioki
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Hioki
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Hioki

Round 2
D. Mandel

Guida won his 145-pound debut.
Guida appears to hurt Hioki with a couple hard leg kicks and wastes no time getting inside. He lifts Hioki up, runs a few steps with him and slams the former Shooto champ down on his head. The battle for position on the ground with Hioki trying to hit the switch and get out from underneath. He falls back with a hold on Guida’s left wrist, trying for a kimura, but can’t get it. Hioki transitions to a triangle attempt, switches to an armbar and Guida slams his way out. Now midway through the round, Guida works from Hioki’s open guard. Hioki switches to butterfly guard, stops an attempt by Guida to pass and then closes guard.

Guida keeps trying to advance when Hioki switches to butterfly, but the long legs of Hioki prevent the pass each time. Guida isn’t staying busy enough on top for ref Madrigal, who orders them up with 40 seconds left. Hioki sticks Guida with a straight left and a left high kick to the face just before time runs out.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Guida
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Hioki
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Hioki

Round 3
Guida spends a minute dodging punches from Hioki before hitting a takedown and slamming his way out of a triangle attempt. Hioki keeps his guard busy, throwing up another triangle which traps Guida’s head and arm momentarily. Guida is back to working from Hioki’s full guard and finally is able to step over into half-guard on Hioki’s right side. Guida still can’t get much done from that position and Hioki reclaims guard with half the round to go. The ref twice warns Guida to get busy if he wants to stay in top position. With 35 seconds left, they’re restarted on the feet and Hioki immediately tries a head kick. He shoots a right hand down the pipe but neither man musters any major offense in the last half-minute. Guida tries for one final takedown and gets stood up by Hioki at the horn.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Guida (29-28 Guida)
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Guida (29-28 Hioki)

T.J. Grant vs. Matt Wiman

Round 1
D. Mandel

Grant mauled Wiman with elbows.
John McCarthy is the referee for this lightweight fight. Wiman tries to catch Grant early with a quick flurry of punches in close quarters. He backs out and catches the Canadian with an inside leg kick, then keeps them coming. Wiman is establishing his uppercut and right hook, doing better at dodging Grant’s punches as they feel out the range early. Grant is still getting Wiman with elbows and knees to the body from the Thai plum. After one encounter in the clinch, Wiman stumbles backward and Grant tries to finish him off. Wiman is bleeding from his nose as he hits the ground, trying to get up from his knees as Grant punches from back-mount.

Wiman tries to roll out and winds up underneath Grant, who passes to Wiman’s right side with just over a minute left in the round. Grant lets Wiman up, grabs the Thai plum and again punishes Wiman’s body with stiff knees. Two more standing elbows in close quarters send Wiman tilting to the ground. Grant pounces and turns out Wiman’s lights with a pair of hammerfists, prompting referee McCarthy to intervene. T.J. Grant gets the knockout win at 4:51 of round one.

Erik Koch vs. Ricardo Lamas

Round 1
John McCarthy referees tonight’s first main-card bout. The featherweights feel out the range with kicks, Lamas going low and looking to establish his jab while Koch kicks high and to the body. Koch pulls up short with a long one-two. Ninety seconds in, Lamas gets in on a high double-leg and Koch is forced to defend with a wide base against the fence. Lamas changes to a single-leg and pulls Koch down, but Koch is right back up, punching Lamas while he hops on one leg. Koch frees the leg and now is clinched against the cage by Lamas with underhooks. Lamas has a bodylock now and keeps the pressure on Koch as they jockey for position. Koch escapes via spinning elbow with 80 seconds to go. Lamas keeps after the takedown and finally puts Koch on his posterior with a few seconds left, but Koch gets up and finishes the round pushing Lamas on the fence.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Lamas
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Koch
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Koch

Round 2
D. Mandel

Lamas opened Koch's face with elbows.
Koch, moving backwards, sticks the aggressive Lamas with some straight punches and turns away another takedown try. Lamas slips on a strike and Koch tries to capitalize, but Lamas pushes forward and winds up on top. Lamas stands and tries to crash through Koch’s open guard with big punches. He finds more success by stacking Koch up and dropping hard, thumping punches from half-guard. Koch is dazed, and Lamas is able to get better position on top as he switches to vicious elbows that instantly turn Koch’s face into a bloody mess. Referee McCarthy steps in and Lamas gets the TKO win at 2:32 of round two.

Anthony Pettis vs. Donald Cerrone

Round 1
D. Mandel

Pettis folded Cerrone with knees and kicks.
Robert Madrigal is the referee for this lightweight bout. Pettis catches Cerrone with a right hand over the top and goes inside with a leg kick. A three-piece combo connects for Pettis, but Cerrone slows his momentum with a knee to the body as Pettis looks for a wild cartwheel kick. Pettis times a Cerrone leg kick well and pops him with a right hand. Pettis sticks Cerrone with a straight left and the “Cowboy” is showing some redness on his face just two minutes in. A kick to the body has Cerrone backing off; Pettis closes in and tries to replicate his “Showtime kick” off the fence, but hits a knee instead.

Pettis steps in on Cerrone and throws a left round kick that lands right on Cerrone’s liver. Cerrone collapses instantly and covers up as Pettis tacks on a few perfunctory punches and ref Madrigal waves it off. Pettis gets the stoppage in speedy fashion at 2:35 of the first round, then calls for a title shot in his post-fight interview.

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson vs. Glover Teixeira

Round 1
Herb Dean is the referee for tonight’s light heavyweight co-main event. Both men are swinging hard early on but neither is landing anything clean. Rampage sticks a couple left hands down the middle; Glover answers with a combo that comes up short. After about a minute, Teixeira hits a takedown and immediately hops onto Rampage’s back. The Brazilian sinks both hooks in as Rampage goes to his knees. Rampage slips one of the hooks and powers back up to his feet, throwing a leg kick at Teixeira as he does. Teixeira slaps Jackson’s cheek with a right high kick; Rampage responds with a right hook and an uppercut. Good hands from Jackson so far, and good head movement as he slips Teixeira’s bombing, overhand punches. Rampage shoots a single-leg from way out and eats a hook from Teixeira, who then pushes the Pride vet against the fence. Rampage gets out quickly and eats another left hand from Teixeira on the temple. A right hand from Teixeira lands on the back of the head of a leaning Rampage, who falls forward. He stands up as Teixeira tries to pound him out and puts his back to the fence. Teixeira presses forward but isn’t expending a lot of energy trying to finish Jackson with the round almost over.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Teixeira
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Teixeira
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Teixeira

Round 2
D. Mandel

Glover likely ended Rampage's UFC career.
Teixeira shoots a single-leg, can’t get it, changes to a double and puts Rampage on the floor. Rampage tries to sit up and escape while Teixeira hits him with short elbows and tries to advance past half-guard. Teixeira is nearly in side-control on Jackson’s right but his foot is stuck. Rampage takes advantage of the position and twists out from underneath, escaping to his feet. A few hard uppercuts go for Rampage as he slugs Teixeira from close range. Teixeira is walking Rampage down, trying to get him against the fence, but Rampage is doing well to counter, even though he’s sporting some damage beneath his left eye.

Teixeira catches the ducking Rampage with another uppercut and turns away a double-leg attempt. Kick to the body lands for Teixeira but he’s blocked when he tries to go up high. Rampage shrugs his shoulders, egging Teixeira on, and Teixeira obliges by stepping forward and bombing with hooks. Rampage keeps taunting and takes a straight left in the mush. Rampage keeps taunting, but it’s Teixeira landing the cleaner shots and smiling at the end of the round.

Just over a minute into the round, Teixeira hits a takedown and shoves Rampage into the fence, then begins mashing with elbows from half-guard. Rampage stands and Teixeira feeds him a couple uppercuts as he gets to his feet. Rampage is bobbing and weaving, dodging punches but also missing with his own wild shots. Teixeira keeps cracking Jackson with left hooks, but they only daze Rampage enough to make him step off. Two minutes left now and it’s all Teixeira on the offense, with Rampage just backing up. Teixeira spins him down with an easy single-leg. Rampage gets back up and Teixeira is all over him, now trying to work knees on the fence. Rampage tries to counter a pair of hooks with an uppercut; Teixeira keeps coming forward. Another takedown for Teixeira with 30 seconds left, and this time he moves right into full mount. UFC Flyweight Championship Fight
Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson

Round 1
John McCarthy is the referee for tonight’s 125-pound main event. It’s a lot of bouncing and feinting early, with both speedy flyweights trying to find their range. Dodson works some leg kicks while Johnson tries to bomb with overhand punches. A right hand from Dodson stuns the champ, but Johnson is quickly back to his feet. Dodson catches a kick and throws Johnson to the floor, again only briefly. Johnson catches the challenger with a right hand that makes Dodson smile. Johnson changes levels and dips inside but gets caught with a left-handed counter. Johnson traps Dodson on the fence, but Dodson squirts out and is waiting for the charging Johnson with a hard left hand. This slows Johnson’s attack until he’s able to get inside and double-leg Dodson down with just over a minute remaining in the opening stanza. Dodson scrambles up but eats a clean right hook as he escapes. Johnson clinches just before the horn and both fighters are warned by the ref to mind the clash of heads when they engage.

Johnson is still looking wobbly as he’s denied a takedown attempt. Dodson catches a kick and shoves Johnson to the ground, then allows him back up. Johnson’s right cheek is bearing the damage from Dodson’s left hooks, which keep coming as he chases the challenger around the cage. Dodson shuts down another shot with a minute left. Dodson catches another kick and this time hold on to slug Johnson with a left straight. Ref McCarthy doesn’t deduct a point and they resume after a minute. Johnson looks a bit desperate as he tries to chase Dodson down, throwing wild punches. Dodson catches a kick and slugs Johnson with a straight punch. Johnson strings together a couple punches as he moves Dodson toward the cage; Dodson quickly backs him off with more left-handed power shots. Dodson times Johnson’s next level-change and lands a nice kick to the guts. Johnson is able to hit a takedown and eats an elbow from underneath. With 70 seconds left, Johnson flattens Dodson out and sets up in his open guard. Dodson squirts out, takes a punch and a knee from Johnson as he stands and circles out. Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Dodson

It doesn’t work, as Johnson knees him in the head from the standing position anyway. No point is deducted, Dodson is cleared to continue and the fight is back on. Dodson catches a kick and sends one straight down the middle for Johnson, who falls and quickly hops back up. Johnson gets in low on a single-leg and hops Dodson into the fence. Dodson gets out and it’s back to striking, with Johnson countering a body shot with a two-piece and a backhanded slap. The champ grabs another single-leg and presses Dodson on the fence. Dodson reverses and tries a takedown of his own, but gets kneed in the head again, this time legally. Dodson puts his hand down and Johnson switches to body shots, then the thigh. Dodson is trapped and now bleeding from the knees, hunched over in the headlock and squirting blood on the mat below. Round 5
Johnson walks right in on Dodson, lands a few knees in the clinch and then puts the Greg Jackson pupil on the ground, sitting against the fence. Dodson posts and stands, dodging punches and putting Johnson on the fence with underhooks. Johnson scoots up the fence and uses Dodson’s pressure to hold himself there, where the champ can throw punches from a better angle. They disengage, Johnson throws a leg kick and Dodson digs a punch to the body. Johnson comes forward and now it’s Dodson changing levels to hit a takedown on the cage. Johnson stands and then goes back to a knee, elbowing Dodson, who’s still glued to his legs. Dodson tries to catch the charging Johnson with a single-leg. Johnson hops free of it and drills the challenger with knees in the clinch, then changes to uppercuts. Dodson stands up to avoid the punishment, so Johnson throws knees to the body before grabbing the Thai plum and going back to the head. Dodson is taking his worst damage of the fight here, inside the last minute, but he’s still trying to throw back with knees on Johnson’s body. Johnson gets one last Thai clinch and hits Dodson with a few more knees for good measure before the horn.
