UFC on Fox 3 Attracts 2.4 Million Average Viewers on Saturday Night

UFC on Fox 3 earned an average of 2.4 million viewers on Saturday night, a stark decrease from both of the promotion’s previous efforts on the network.

Sherdog.com confirmed the figure Tuesday with an industry source. The May 5 event took place at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J., and was highlighted by Nate Diaz’s second-round submission of Jim Miller in their lightweight main event. The broadcast also showcased Johny Hendricks, Alan Belcher and Lavar Johnson, who bested Josh Koscheck, Rousimar Palhares and Pat Barry, respectively.

The event’s average viewership represents a drop of 2 million viewers when compared to January’s UFC on Fox 2, which attracted 4.7 million observers. The UFC’s inaugural effort on Fox this past November averaged 5.7 million viewers, an all-time high for mixed martial arts on network television.

Competing with both the NBA playoffs and the Floyd Mayweather-Miguel Cotto boxing undercard, the two-hour UFC on Fox 3 broadcast averaged a 1.6 rating in the male 18-34 demographic, also a decline from the promotion’s first two Fox outings, which averaged ratings of 4.3 and 3.2, respectively.

UFC on Fox 4 is expected to take place Aug. 4 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and will likely be headlined by a middleweight contest between former Bellator champion Hector Lombard and fellow heavy-hitter Brian Stann.
