UFC on Fox 15 Bonuses: Rockhold, Holloway, Anderson, Villante Earn $50K Awards
Luke Rockhold dominated Lyoto Machida like few ever have.
The former Strikeforce middleweight champion earned a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus -- and possibly a title shot – with a second-round submission over the former 205-pound king in the UFC on Fox 15 headliner at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., on Saturday night. Rockhold battered Machida with vicious ground-and-pound on the mat in the first frame and finished the job with a rear-naked choke 2:31 into round two. It was Rockhold’s fourth consecutive finish within the Las Vegas-based promotion.
Meanwhile, 23-year-old Max Holloway put together the most impressive performance of his young career, earning a $50,000 performance award for his third-round submission of featherweight contender Cub Swanson. Holloway kept Swanson off-balance throughout their fight with a versatile striking arsenal before ending the contest with a guillotine choke 3:58 into round three.
Finally, Gian Villante and Corey Anderson each took home a $50,000 “Fight of the Night” bonus for their light heavyweight bout. After two competitive rounds, Villante put his foe away with an overhand right and follow-up punches 4:18 into the final frame to hand Anderson his first career defeat.
