The Ultimate Fighting Championship on Tuesday announced that a featherweight scrap between Darren Elkins and Jeremy Stephens will go down at Chicago’s United Center for UFC on Fox 10.
The slate of fights, which will be headlined by a lightweight clash pitting former UFC champion Benson Henderson against onetime Strikeforce kingpin Josh Thomson, takes place Jan. 25 and will air live on Fox’s flagship network.
MMA fans last saw Stephens in action at UFC Fight Night 32, when “Lil’ Heathen” brutally finished Rony Mariano Bezerra with a head kick in just 40 seconds. Prior to that victory, the Alliance MMA rep had dropped three of four, suffering defeats at the hands of Anthony Pettis, Donald Cerrone and Yves Edwards before halting his skid with a win over Estevan Payan.
Elkins has consistently found success throughout his UFC tenure, winning seven of his nine fights inside the Octagon. The Hoosier has stumbled only once as a featherweight, as he was knocked out by former title challenger Chad Mendes in just 68 seconds this past April at UFC on Fox 7. Elkins rebounded from the setback, however, notching a unanimous decision win over ex-Sengoku champion Hatsu Hioki this past August at UFC Fight Night 27.
