UFC on FX 3 to Feature Johnson-McCall Flyweight Rematch, Pague-Papazian Bantamweight Clash

The UFC’s third offering on cable network FX will feature an anticipated rematch between top flyweights Demetrious Johnson and Ian McCall, promotion officials announced Tuesday.

Also confirmed for the June 8 event was a bantamweight contest pitting Dustin Pague against Jared Papazian. A host city has not yet been announced for the event.

Johnson and McCall fought to a majority draw in their last in-cage appearance, and neither man has seen action since. The result of their March 3 clash was originally announced as a majority decision victory for Johnson, preventing the men from squaring off in a fourth round of “sudden victory” to decide the winner.

As a result, the UFC’s four-man flyweight tournament has taken a detour, and “Mighty Mouse” and “Uncle Creepy” will lock horns one more time to decide who will take on Joseph Benavidez for the inaugural UFC 125-pound championship.

Johnson, 25, has lost just once in his last six outings, coming up short in his effort to capture the UFC bantamweight title from Dominick Cruz on Oct. 1. Prior to that defeat, the AMC Pankration export notched consecutive victories over Nick Pace, Damacio Page, Norifumi Yamamoto and Miguel Torres.

McCall’s encounter with Johnson marked the first Octagon appearance for the former Tachi Palace Fights flyweight champion. Known for his tight boxing and wrestling skills, McCall, 27, has found great success since departing the 135-pound ranks, rattling off three wins at flyweight and besting the likes of Jussier da Silva, Dustin Ortiz and Darrell Montague.

A cast member on “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 14, Pague was stopped by John Albert in his official UFC debut at the live season finale on Dec. 3. Prior to his time on the reality series, the 24-year-old notched five straight finishes on the local circuit between 2010 and 2011.

Papazian also tasted defeat in his UFC debut, as he was narrowly outpointed by veteran Mike Easton on Jan. 20. The former King of the Cage 135-pound champion has won eight of his last 10 fights and holds five career knockouts to his credit.
