UFC Plans March 3 Return to Saitama Super Arena in Japan
The Ultimate Fighting Championship plans to return to Japan on March 3.
UFC officials announced the news on Saturday following UFC on Fuel TV 6, which served as the organization’s debut show on Chinese soil. The UFC’s upcoming Japanese event has not yet been named, but it is expected to take place at the Saitama Super Arena, the longtime home of the defunct Pride Fighting Championships.
The Las Vegas-based promotion last visited the Land of the Rising Sun for February’s UFC 144, which was also held in Saitama. That event was headlined by Benson Henderson’s title-winning performance against reigning lightweight king Frankie Edgar, marking the promotion’s first trip to Japan since UFC 29 in December 2000.
UFC on Fuel TV 6 took place at the Cotai Arena in Cotai, Macau and saw Cung Le deliver a stunning, first-round knockout of Rich Franklin in the evening’s main event, rendering the former UFC middleweight king unconscious in just 2:17.
