UFC Planning Vitor Belfort-Luke Rockhold Middleweight Scrap for Upcoming Brazil Show

A middleweight main event between Vitor Belfort and Luke Rockhold is in the works for a to-be-announced UFC event in Brazil later this year.

UFC President Dana White revealed the promotion’s plan to MMAJunkie.com on Wednesday while promoting UFC on Fuel TV 7 in London. No date has been set for the Belfort-Bisping confrontation, but it is likely to serve as a No. 1 contender’s bout, according to the report.

Belfort, 35, recently returned to the middleweight division after unsuccessfully challenging Jon Jones for the light heavyweight title on short notice last year. “The Phenom” looked sharp in his reemergence at 185 pounds, as he stopped Michael Bisping with a second-round head kick at UFC on FX 7 last month in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Rockhold will make his UFC debut riding a nine-fight win streak. Strikeforce’s final middleweight champion last competed in July, when he successfully defended his belt against Tim Kennedy in Portland, Ore. Rockhold won the Strikeforce middleweight belt from Ronaldo Souza in September 2011 and first defended it the following January, stopping ex-UFC talent Keith Jardine on first-round strikes.
