UFC Newcomers ‘Trekko,’ Izquierdo Paired for Feb. 15 in Omaha

Australian-based lightweight standout Bernardo “Trekko” Magalhaes and unbeaten up-and-comer Yoislandy Izquierdo will make their UFC debuts against one another at UFC on Fuel TV 1.

Sherdog.com confirmed the booking with sources close to the bout on Sunday after Magalhaes announced news of his signing via Facebook.

“Very happy to get my first UFC contract!” he wrote. “The fight will be on 15th February. All [that] I need is a hard training, focus and let go. Can’t wait.”

UFC on Fuel TV 1 takes place Feb. 15 at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Neb., and marks the promotion’s first main card on the Fox-owned cable station. Welterweight contenders Jake Ellenberger and Diego Sanchez will square off in the show’s headliner, with heavyweights Stefan Struve and Dave Herman in the likely co-main event.

Magalhaes is the reigning lightweight ace of top Aussie promotion Cage Fighting Championship, a title he earned with a five-round win over Adrian Pang in March 2010. The Brazilian-born ground specialist, who leads TP Fight Team in New South Wales, has won twice since, most recently defending his belt against Robert Lisita in another 25-minute affair.

Perfect through six professional outings, Izquierdo notched the biggest victory of his young career on Dec. 17, punching out previously unbeaten Patrick Cenoble to win Championship Fighting Alliance’s prospect-rich lightweight tournament. The 27-year-old trains alongside current UFC bantamweight Alex Caceres at the Young Tigers Foundation in his native Miami.
