Five years after they battled to a draw in the Octagon at UFC Fight Night “Maynard vs. Diaz,” Nik Lentz and Thiago Tavares will square off again -- this time as featherweights.
The Las Vegas-based promotion announced on Tuesday that Lentz and Tavares will meet at UFC Fight Night at the 1stBank Events Center in Broomfield, Colo., on Feb. 14. The card is headlined by a welterweight showdown pitting Matt Brown against Tarec Saffiedine.
Lentz has surged into the featherweight Top 10 since moving from lightweight following a loss to Evan Dunham in Jan. 2012. “The Carny” has won four of five outings at 145-pounds, with his only setback coming at the hands of top contender Chad Mendes.
Tavares, meanwhile, debuted at featherweight in August, when he submitted Robbie Peralta with a rear-naked choke 4:27 into the opening frame at UFC Fight Night “Bader vs. St. Preux.” The Brazilian compiled an 8-5-1 mark in the promotion during a lengthy stint at 155 pounds.
