On the heels of their epic meeting at UFC 139, Dan Henderson and Mauricio Rua delivered yet another memorable slugfest at UFC Fight Night 39. Both legendary light heavyweights were rewarded for their efforts.
Henderson and Rua received “Fight of the Night” honors – and $50,000 apiece -- for their headlining clash at the Nelio Dias Gynasium in Natal, Brazil on Sunday night. Henderson weathered a pair of first-round knockdowns from “Shogun” before rallying to knock out the former UFC light heavyweight ruler with a vicious right hook at the 1:31 mark of round three. As a result of that fight-clinching blow, Henderson also pocketed an additional $50,000 for “Performance of the Night.”
Henderson wasn’t the only fighter to win via resounding knockout. Godofredo Castro began the card by knocking out Noad Lahat with a perfectly-timed double flying knee 2:39 into the opening round of their featherweight encounter, earning the evening’s other $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus in the process.
