Tony Martin vs. Keita Nakamura

Round 1

Martin pushes forward early and connects with a one-two, while Nakamura circles off his back foot in the southpaw stance. After a slow minute, "K-Taro" lands a few good jabs as he fends off Martin's advances. Martin puts Nakamura on roller skates with an uppercut, but the Japanese veteran recovers as Martin doesn't press too hard for the finish. Martin continues to find success on the feet in the third minute, keeping Nakamura on the defensive with jabs and check hooks, then throwing fire with the straight right. Nakamura has some swelling around his left eye, and another big right hand from Martin doesn't help his cause. Nakamura shoots and completes a double-leg near the center of the cage, but he's immediately forced to go on the defensive as Martin catches him in a headlock. The welterweights spend the final 30 seconds in the stalemate position.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Martin
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Martin
Josh Stillman scores the round 10-9 Martin

Round 2

Martin snaps back the head of Nakamura with a jab, then goes circling to Nakamura's right, away from the southpaw's power hand. "K-Taro" isn't giving Martin much to worry about in the standup exchanges, as the American easily dodges almost everything Nakamura throws his way. Martin lands a one-two, then comes over the top with a right-handed counter to a Nakamura low kick. Martin takes a jab to the body but blasts Nakamura in return with a right hand over the top. The strikes become a bit more sporadic in the latter half of the round; Martin continues to land the occasional one-two or single punch, while Nakamura is only able to manage a few jabs and body kicks. Nakamura once again finishes the round with a takedown, while Martin finished with another guillotine attempt.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Martin
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Martin
Josh Stillman scores the round 10-9 Martin

Round 3

Nakamura tries a few kicks at the start of the final frame, and Martin makes him pay for the attempts with hard right-handed counters. Nakamura shoots for a takedown and completes the double-leg... but once again, Martin is able to grab a headlock on the way to the floor. Martin switches to a kimura and uses it to sweep, but "K-Taro" quickly wrangles him back to his knees. Martin finally gets free with 3:30 on the clock, and now the 170-pounders resume striking, toe-to-toe in the middle of the cage. It's Nakamura on the offensive now, jabbing his way forward while a heavy-breathing Martin stays on his back foot. Martin fends off the grappler with a plunging right hand; Nakamura tries a sloppy kick, maybe looking to clinch or pull guard, but Martin isn't having it. Nakamura completes a single-leg with 40 seconds on the clock. Martin hits another kimura sweep, then tries to complete the armlock submission from side control. Nakamura keeps the arm straight, and he'll survive to hear the scorecards.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Martin (30-27 Martin)
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Martin (30-27 Martin)
Josh Stillman scores the round 10-9 Martin (30-27 Martin)

Corey Anderson vs. Patrick Cummins

Round 1

Cummins eats a jab as he waits for Anderson to come forward, then changes levels once "Overtime" gets within arm's reach. Anderson is able to block the wrestler's first takedown attempt, then goes back to jabbing. A right hook stings Cummins, then an uppercut as Anderson starts to up his volume, smelling blood. Cummins lands a hook of his own as he backs up to the fence, but he's clearly in trouble. Anderson moves in to clinch with the bloodied Cummins, slams him with a standing elbow, then an uppercut. Cummins staggers as he breaks out of the clinch, his right eye socket swollen and filling up with blood, a sizeable knot on his left temple. Anderson changes tactics, shooting and completing a takedown at the fence with just under two minutes on the clock. Cummins gets back to his feet, but Anderson is all over him, pressuring with strikes near the fence, then double-legging the former Penn State athlete to the floor. Anderson takes back-mount and tries to punch out Cummins before the end of the round, but Cummins shakes him off and finishes the round on his feet.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-8 Anderson
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-8 Anderson
Josh Stillman scores the round 10-8 Anderson

Round 2

Cummins sits down on a left hook and gets popped with an uppercut from Anderson, who is beating Cummins to the punch in virtually every exchange. Anderson comes inside to clinch, shoving Cummins against the wall as both men land uppercuts inside. Cummins is trying to get something going with his dirty boxing, but he's looking slow after withstanding a harsh first round. Anderson still looks fresh as he shoots a double-leg and plows Cummins to the ground with authority, right around the halfway point of the round. Cummins gets to his knees, then his feet, but Anderson leans him against the wall before dragging him back to the mat with a bodylock. Anderson jumps to back-mount, but Cummins quickly escapes out the back door. Cummins walks into a jab, tries to catch a kick but can't knock Anderson off balance. Anderson scores with a lead uppercut before shooting and completing yet another takedown with 45 seconds remaining. Cummins stands up with Anderson balancing on his back, no hooks, in what could best be described as a "horsey ride" position. Anderson hops off, shoots and takes down Cummins one final time before the horn.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Anderson
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Anderson
Josh Stillman scores the round 10-9 Anderson

Round 3

Anderson completes another takedown -- his seventh of the bout -- inside the opening minute, then shoves a kneeling Cummins up against the base of the fence. Anderson is favoring position over strikes at this point, working to ensure that Cummins remains on the mat rather than landing any heavy ground-and-pound. Cummins gets to his knees, then his feet, only to be double-legged again almost instantly. This time, Anderson goes to back-mount with both hooks in and rolls Cummins onto his left side. Cummins peels out the right hook and rolls free, back to his feet. Anderson hits his 10th takedown just seconds later, and this time it looks like Cummins won't be getting up. Anderson has the wrestler flattened out on his stomach, keeping Cummins pinned with all his weight while landing some short punches. Despite this, Cummins manages to struggle up once more to finish the fight on his feet.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Anderson (30-26 Anderson)
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Anderson (30-26 Anderson)
Josh Stillman scores the round 10-9 Anderson (30-26 Anderson)

The Official Result

Corey Anderson def. Patrick Cummins via Unanimous Decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-27) R3 5:00

Siyar Bahadurzada vs. Luan Chagas

Round 1

Chagas comes sailing toward Bahadurzada with a flying knee, but he can't find the mark and narrowly avoids Bahadurzada's counter right over the top. Bahadurzada lands a few heavy kicks, forcing the Brazilian to switch stances less than one minute into the fight. "Siyar the Great" catches a kick and hustles Chagas to the ground at the base of the fence. Working from Chagas' full guard, Bahadurzada lands some ground-and-pound to the body, though nothing too severe. In a flash, Chagas hits a sweep and then jumps on the back of his still-kneeling opponent, securing the position with a body triangle. Bahadurzada fights off one rear-naked choke attempt, then another, while Chagas continues to soften him up with punches from back-mount. Chagas may be considering an armbar, now goes back to fishing for the RNC. Bahadurzada never lets the sub attempt get past a neck crank, though he finishes the round with Chagas on his back.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Chagas
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Chagas
Josh Stillman scores the round 10-9 Chagas

Round 2

The southpaw Chagas comes out firing and pushes Bahadurzada backward with a heavy left hand. Chagas tries to jab his way forward but has to cover up and retreat as Bahadurzada returns fire with heavy punches of his own. Chagas changes levels to try and catch Bahadurzada coming forward, but the "Afghan Killer" sprawls on the shot. Bahadurzada backs up Chagas to the fence, lands a combination and fends off another takedown attempt. Chagas tries to fight his way back to the center, but as soon as he does, Bahadurzada lands a beautiful front kick to the liver. Chagas grabs his midsection and doubles over, and Bahadurzada polishes him off with a perfectly-placed uppercut to the temple that knocks the Brazilian out cold and sends referee Gary Copeland into action.

The Official Result

Siyar Bahadurzada def. Luan Chagas via KO (Kick to the Body and Punch) R2 2:40

Merab Dvalishvili vs. Ricky Simon

Round 1

Dvalishvili throws a spinning back kick, has it caught by Simon, but pulls back the leg before the Washington native can complete a takedown. Simon catches another spinning kick, this time completes the takedown, but Dvalishvili is able to spring right back to his feet. Dvalishvili gets knocked off balance as he throws a standing elbow, but he turns the accident into an opportunity for a takedown. Simon struggles back to his feet, gets ragdolled back to the floor, then repeats the sequence. Simon gets up for a third time, and this time he's able to escape the clutches of Dvalishvili to resume striking. Dvalishvili lands a heavy combination, gets touched with a light jab and then dodges an overhand right, as a frustrated Simon drops his hands to his sides. An uppercut puts Simon on his seat in the center of the cage; he tries to sit up and drive forward, but Dvalishvili won't be taken down. Dvalishvili pushes Simon to the outside and tries to finish him off with punches and elbows. Simon absorbs this and stays standing, so Dvalishvili hits a takedown instead. Simon is able to stand up almost every time he's taken down, but once he's up, Dvalishvili is able to bully him with a clinch or bodylock. The bantamweights separate to spend the final 30 seconds circling, both men landing body shots in the closing moments.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Dvalishvili
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Dvalishvili
Josh Stillman scores the round 10-9 Dvalishvili

Round 2

Simon tries to get busy on the feet early in round two, putting Dvalishvili on the retreat momentarily with some big, telegraphed uppercuts. Dvalishvili soon finds himself coming forward again, and 90 seconds into the round, he's got Simon on the ground with a single-leg. Simon escapes in the ensuing scramble, but back on the feet, he's forced to endure more heavy punches and leg kicks from the Georgian. Right around the halfway mark, Simon shoots and completes a takedown, then elbows Dvalishvili in the face. Dvalishvili is back on his feet 15 seconds later, however, and now it's Simon's turn to be taken down again. Simon stands up with Dvalishvili hanging all over him, trying to take the back. Simon reverses Dvalishvili against the fence and slams the Serra-Longo product with a nice elbow strike as he exits the pocket. Dvalishvili seems unfazed, and he's able to take down Simon once more before the horn.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Dvalishvili
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Dvalishvili
Josh Stillman scores the round 10-9 Dvalishvili

Round 3

Dvalishvili throws a low kick and gets countered with a right hand over the top. The low kick lands to the cup of Simon, ruled an accidental low blow by referee Liam Kerrigan. Simon doesn't want any time to rest, and the bantamweights get straight back to business. Dvalishvili gets a standing rear waistlock as he leans Simon against the fence. As soon as he's taken down, Simon hits the switch and stands up, now holding Dvalishvili in a rear waistlock. The 135ers separate with 3:30 on the clock; Simon lands a hard body shot, answered by Dvalishvili with a big right hook. Dvalishvili lands a leg kick, gets backed up by Simon with jabs, then taken down as the American changes levels for a double. Dvalishvili looks for a kimura sweep, but Simon is positioned well in half guard and easily snuffs out the sub attempt. Simon has an arm-triangle choke setup, but he needs to get to side control on the other side. As Simon tries to step over, Dvalishvili breaks loose and scrambles to his feet. Simon looks exhausted, hands hanging low as the still-energetic Dvalishvili pressures him near the fence with 90 seconds left. Simon is sporting a mouse underneath his right eye as he's taken down in the center of the cage. Out of nowhere, Simon snares Dvalishvili in a guillotine and rolls into top mount, and suddenly Dvalishvili is in deep trouble with more than 30 seconds on the clock. Simon tries to adjust the one-armed, mounted guillotine, but Dvalishvili continues to churn his legs, showing referee Liam Kerrigan that he's still conscious. When the final bell sounds and Simon releases the choke, it's unclear whether Dvalishvili is still conscious, but he soon gives a thumbs-up -- although the dizzy Georgian has to be assisted by doctors when he tries to stand.

After some confusion, in one of the most bizarre outcomes you'll see this year, referee Kerrigan decides that Dvalishvili was unconscious at the end of the fight and waves it off, declaring Simon the winner by technical submission.

The Official Result

Ricky Simon def. Merab Dvalishvili via Technical Submission (Guillotine Choke) R3 5:00

Alex Garcia vs. Ryan LaFlare

Round 1

The southpaw LaFlare works from the center of the cage, swinging some long punches and leg kicks to keep the shorter Garcia on the outside. Garcia shoots a long double, but LaFlare sprawls all over it and then begins hunting for a choke. Garcia jumps back to his feet but soon finds himself pinned against the fence by LaFlare with an underhook. LaFlare holds Garcia on the cage, delivering a few sharp knees to the body of the kneeling "Dominican Nightmare." Garcia finally separates with 1:40 on the clock, tries to swing on LaFlare but can't find the mark. LaFlare has a kick caught and executes a dangerous spin to escape, barely getting his hands up to block Garcia's punches as he turns. After putting Garcia on the fence for a few seconds, LaFlare counters an overhand right with an inside leg kick that puts Garcia on his knees near the end of the round.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 LaFlare
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 LaFlare
Josh Stillman scores the round 10-9 LaFlare

Round 2

LaFlare dodges a pair of big right hands from Garcia, then fires back with a hard kick for the Dominican's midsection. The New Yorker ducks under a punch from Garcia, spins to the back and pulls Garcia to the ground -- but Garcia sweeps to top position almost as soon as they hit the mat in the center of the cage. LaFlare elevates and scrambles back to his feet, only to be taken down again by Garcia at the base of the fence. Garcia clings to LaFlare's midsection, then turns the corner to try and take the back as LaFlare sits up against the wall. Garcia has one hook in, but LaFlare rolls onto his back, then uses a nifty butterfly sweep to stand. The fighters are back on their feet halfway through the round, and now it's LaFlare's turn to take down Garcia again. LaFlare is nearly in side control on Garcia's left, his left leg stuck in Garcia's deep half guard. LaFlare may be looking for an arm-triangle choke setup, with his right arm looped underneath Garcia's head. LaFlare has the choke but can't get across Garcia's body to be in the right position for a finish, as Garcia is still trapping his left leg. LaFlare releases the head-and-arm setup and gives Garcia a couple left hands to the body before the horn.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 LaFlare
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 LaFlare
Josh Stillman scores the round 10-9 LaFlare

Round 3

LaFlare lands a body kick, but Garcia catches it and turns it into a quick takedown in the center of the cage. LaFlare wraps up Garcia from tight closed guard, leading to a stalemate and a stand-up order from referee Marc Goddard around the 3:30 mark. Garcia tries to shoot on another kick, but this time LaFlare sprawls and catches him a front headlock, forcing Garcia to bail out. Halfway through the final round, it's Garcia shooting again, this time putting LaFlare on his seat at the fence. LaFlare traps Garcia's left arm between his legs and looks to secure the right with his hands, looking to secure a crucifix. Garcia is stuck in a bad spot, unable to improve his position, really unable to move much at all for fear of LaFlare securing a dominant position. Referee Goddard warns the fighters that "the fight's not going anywhere," then orders them back to their feet with 45 seconds left. LaFlare catches an aggressive Garcia coming forward and trips him to the ground, but Garcia sweeps and stands up to throw a few more punches in the closing moments. LaFlare gets the final word, however, with a step-in knee at the horn.

Dan Hooker vs. Jim Miller

Round 1

Miller appears to take a poke in his left eye during an early exchange, but he shakes off referee Gary Copeland when the ref asks if he's OK. A left hand from Miller seems to get the attention of the 6-foot-tall Hooker, who towers over the New Jerseyan as they circle in the opening minute. A kick from Hooker backs up Miller to the fence, but the wrestler turns the tables when he shoots and drives Hooker to the ground near the fence. Hooker powers back to his feet midway through the round, now feeds Miller a knee and a standing elbow strike. Hooker counters a slow hook from Miller with a crisp right straight, then lays waste to the veteran with a brutal knee to the chin. Miller collapses to his back, eyes rolling around, and Hooker drops a bonus right hand on the chin of his dazed opponent before he's pulled away by referee Copeland.

The Official Result

Dan Hooker def. Jim Miller via KO (Knee) R1 3:00

Brett Johns vs. Aljamain Sterling

Round 1

Sterling works from the southpaw stance and throws a few side kicks at the body of Johns to keep the Welshman on the outside. Johns gets through with a pair of hooks, backing up Sterling to the fence. The American continues to circle the outside as Johns controls the center of the cage. Sterling clinches up and tries a sacrifice throw, but he winds up mounted as Johns stuffs the throw. Sterling immediately gets an underhook and sweeps Johns to the bottom, escaping a bad situation in a hurry and then pushing Johns against the cage. John stands up with just over two minutes on the clock, but he's still pinned to the chain-link by Sterling with an underhook. Johns breaks out and tries to resume striking with 60 seconds left. Sterling plants a kick in the midsection of the "Pikey," then gets taken down but forces Johns to fight off a guillotine at the finish.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Sterling
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Sterling
Josh Stillman scores the round 10-9 Sterling

Round 2

Same as in round one, Johns takes the center of the cage and follows Sterling around the outside. However it's the circling Sterling controlling the distance and the pace of the fight, his strikes coming in quicker than Johns' in every exchange. Johns lands a nice knee, then tries a takedown, but Sterling hooks the Welsh fighter's rear leg, looks to hit the switch and then stands up instead. Johns keeps Sterling trapped on the fence with an underhook, but Sterling creates some space inside and feeds Johns a nasty knee to the gut. Johns covers his midsection and backs up, blocking punches as Sterling tries to finish off his injured opponent. Johns does well to recover from the body blow, even swinging back at Sterling with a left hand. With two minutes left, though, it's Sterling hitting a powerful takedown and then roughing up Johns with ground-and-pound. Johns gets back on his feet and leans back against the fence, giving Sterling a few elbows to the head as the American digs for another takedown. Referee Liam Kerrigan breaks up the clinch with 55 seconds on the clock, and now both bantamweights start landing punches. Johns tries a spinning backfist and a spinning kick at the end of the round, both dodged by Sterling.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Sterling
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Sterling
Josh Stillman scores the round 10-9 Sterling

Round 3

Johns comes out aggressive, once again pressuring Sterling to the outside. Sterling aborbs the pressure and gives it back to the "Pikey" in the form of a knee to the body, a pair of inside leg kicks, then a takedown. Johns stands up as Sterling tries to jump on his back, leaving "Aljo" stuck with only one hook. Sterling drops off the back and goes to a front bodylock, shoulder-shrugging Johns' face as they fight chest-to-chest on the fence. Johns tries to get away and is taken off balance by Sterling, who's still looking to jump on the Welshman's back. Sterling settles for hugging Johns against the fence again, now halfway through the final round. Sterling throws knees to the legs of Johns, but it's not enough for referee Kerrigan, who splits up the fighters with 1:40 remaining. Johns tries a flying knee, a left hand, but Sterling dodges both and then drops for a single-leg. Sterling completes the takedown and hops on the back of Johns, then spends the final minute dropping punches with both hooks in.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Sterling (30-27 Sterling)
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Sterling (30-27 Sterling)
Josh Stillman scores the round 10-9 Sterling (30-27 Sterling)

The Official Result

Aljamain Sterling def. Brett Johns via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) R3 5:00

David Branch vs. Thiago Santos

Round 1

Santos misses with a head kick, then lands a couple to the legs of Branch as the towering middleweights bounce in and out of range in the opening minute. Santos lands a left hook but gets an overhand right across the face as Branch throws one over the top. Santos continues to chop at Branch's lead leg, while Branch presses out from the center, looking for an opening. Santos sits down on a heavy left hook that Branch gets a hand up to block. Branch chases Santos backward to the fence, then floors the Brazilian with a huge overhand right to the chin. Santos drops to his back at the base of the fence, and Branch drops the hammer on "Marreta" with four or five big follow-up punches to the jaw. Santos is out cold by the time referee Gary Copeland intervenes, as Branch notches a surprise knockout halfway through the opening round.

The Official Result

David Branch def. Thiago Santos via KO (Punches) R1 2:30

Chase Sherman vs. Justin Willis

Round 1

Both men connect with right hands in the opening exchange, but it's Willis following up with a combination that has Sherman on his back foot early. Sherman shakes the cobwebs and throws a kick which Willis catches but can't convert to a takedown. Willis lands a left hand over the top, then another one that puts Sherman on rubber legs. Once again, the "Vanilla Gorilla" is able to recover quickly, and he catches Willis stepping inside with a thudding right hand. Willis eats the shot and keeps coming, crashing into Sherman and throwing a leg kick which lands to the cup of the Mississippi native. Referee Marc Goddard calls time, Sherman takes a minute to recover, and the heavyweights get back to business with just under three minutes on the clock. Sherman throws a lazy right hand, leaving his chin wide open for Willis, who lands a lovely counter hook that sends Sherman to the floor. Willis pounces on his downed opponent, slamming Sherman with hammerfists, but somehow Sherman is able to withstand the assault. Sherman even manages to climb back to his feet, but once he's there, Willis resumes his combination punching. Willis adds a clinch knee, ducks under a right hook and feeds Sherman an uppercut from the collar tie. Sherman pushes "Big Pretty" against the wall and lands a few short lefts as the final 30 seconds tick away.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-8 Willis
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-8 Willis
Josh Stillman scores the round 10-8 Willis

Round 2

Sherman lands an outside leg kick to start the round, but it's Willis doing the first real damage with a big left hook. Sherman continues to circle just outside the range of the shorter southpaw, landing a few leg kicks through the opening minute. Willis times one kick perfectly and snaps back Willis' head with a clean left hand. Sherman tries to push away on Willis' head and gives him a thumb to the right eye in the process. Willis takes a minute to recover, after which referee Goddard tells both heavyweights to keep their lead hands closed when striking. Sherman goes back to leg-kicking and looks to be the fresher fighter midway through round two, but the plodding Willis continues to be the heavier hitter. To wit: Sherman throws another low kick but eats a hard left hook counter from Willis in the process. Willis catches a kick and trips Sherman to the floor with just under two minutes on the clock. "Big Pretty" is able to maintain top position for the remainder of the round, dropping sporadic punches and elbows through Sherman's guard.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Willis
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Willis
Josh Stillman scores the round 10-9 Sherman

Round 3

Willis backs up under pressure from Sherman at the onset of the final round, but soon "Big Pretty" catches a kick and uses it to hustle Sherman against the wall. Sherman breaks free and puts a right hand across Willis' face, followed by a body kick. Sherman puts Willis on the fence with a right underhook, slows down until referee Goddard calls for action, then pops Willis with a couple short elbows. The big men separate with 2:30 on the clock, and Willis comes over the top with a left hand that still looks to have some steam behind it. A brief clinch ends with another elbow shot from Sherman, who's waggling his tongue at Willis, lowering his hands to invite the American Kickboxing Academy product to trade. A right hand snaps back Willis' head, and now Willis wants to tie up. One minute remains as Willis pushes Sherman against the wall. Sherman breaks free and comes forward, landing a clinch elbow and knee as time expires.

Frankie Edgar vs. Cub Swanson

Round 1

Edgar presses forward, testing the range with jabs and combinations in the opening minute, while Swanson circles off his back foot with hands held low. Swanson leans in a few times to throw long right hands to the body, taking some glancing blows from Edgar in return. Edgar grabs a single-leg late in the second minute and is immediately pushed away by Swanson, who briefly switches to the southpaw stance. Edgar eats a jab, then bombs on Swanson with a lunging right hand that turns into a takedown attempt. Swanson stays standing with the help of the fence, but Edgar lands another punch on his way out of the clinch. Swanson, now cut underneath his right eye, is fighting reactively now, twitching and feinting but largely standing flat-footed and waiting for Edgar to throw something. Swanson sticks a jab and gets his head off-center to dodge Edgar's counter. Swanson lands a hard low kick and grazes the head of Edgar with a spinning back kick that just misses landing flush.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Edgar
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Edgar
Josh Stillman scores the round 10-9 Edgar

Round 2

Swanson waits for Edgar to come forward, then sticks a jab on the New Jersey native's chin. Edgar keeps pressing and turns Swanson's head with a right hand, then runs him against the wall grabbing for a single-leg. Swanson bounces off the wall and comes back to the center, landing a jab as Edgar throws a hard outside leg kick. Swanson's knee is starting to look red after a round and a half of absorbing kicks from "The Answer." Edgar comes over the top with a right, misses with the left hook behind it, but hits Swanson with another leg kick on the end of the combo. Swanson steps forward to throw but instead has to fight off another Edgar takedown attempt. Edgar slips his head off center to dodge a jab, then hits Swanson with another inside leg kick. Swanson tries to check the next kick, then gives one back to Edgar in frustration. Inside the final minute of the round, Swanson is starting to find a home for his jab with a bit more regularity. Edgar tries a knee tap, gets limp-legged by Swanson, who slugs the ex-champ with his best combination of the fight so far. The punches send Edgar back to his stool with a cut underneath his right eye.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Edgar
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Edgar
Josh Stillman scores the round 10-9 Edgar

Round 3

Swanson fights off a single-leg but has to take a check hook, then a leg kick from Edgar as they disengage. Edgar is once again pressing forward, even flipping between stances as he pressures Swanson here in the early half of the final round. Swanson takes control for a moment as he lands a right hand, but soon it's Edgar back in the driver's seat, pressuring the Jackson-Wink fighter with low kicks and hooks. Swanson steps inside to land a pair of body shots as the featherweights hit the halfway point of the final round. Edgar shoots and pushes Swanson to the fence, where the New Jerseyan stands up to hold Swanson in place with an underhook. Swanson breaks free with 90 seconds left but eats another Edgar hook as he escapes. Swanson blocks a few high kicks from Edgar, then catches "The Answer" coming inside to land a level elbow. Swanson tags Edgar in the pocket again, but Edgar just eats it and throws hands back at him. The fighters stop swinging for the last 30 seconds, though Edgar catches a leaning Swanson with a combination, and Swanson gets the last word with a glancing body kick.

Edson Barboza vs. Kevin Lee

Round 1

Keith Peterson is the referee for tonight's 157-pound catchweight main event. Lee comes out southpaw and tries to loop some hooks around the Brazilian's high guard, then goes upstairs with a left high kick that Barboza blocks. About 40 seconds in, Lee changes levels and floors Barboza with a takedown at the fence. The American postures up and stacks Barboza, whose head is pressing against the fence. Lee briefly takes mount and smashes Barboza's face with three strong hammerfists before being bucked off. Barboza reclaims half guard, then full guard as they enter the third minute of the bout. Lee stands up, gets kicked away, then comes back to the mat and shucks Barboza's legs to land in side control on the right. Lee mounts Barboza for the second time, and now the "Motown Phenom" is pouring it on, landing some thudding right hands as he postures up. Barboza fights off an arm-triangle choke, so Lee releases and goes back to smashing the muay Thai champion with heavy elbows and punches. With 90 seconds left in the first round, Barboza's face is lumped up, a particularly prominent mouse underneath his right eye. Even after losing mount, Lee continues to stack up Barboza and smash away with ground-and-pound. Lee looks to be on the verge of a stoppage when the horn sounds and referee Peterson calls an end to round one.

Round 2

Barboza blocks a left high kick but eats a jab behind it, and suddenly it's the striker shooting for Lee's legs. Lee easily brushes Barboza aside, then runs him against the wall. Barboza breaks out of the clinch with a knee to the body which Lee acknowledges with a nod. Lee puts a heavy kick on Barboza's ribs, sticks a jab behind it and then double-legs Barboza against the fence. Lee lifts and slams the Brazilian, landing in Barboza's closed guard. Barboza wraps up tight from the bottom, now 90 seconds into the round. Barboza looks to be thinking about a triangle, but that notion evaporates quickly when Lee stands up and drops a pair of heavy right hands. To half guard goes Lee, then full mount, but Barboza reclaims half guard in a hurry. Lee is all over Barboza here, not giving him an inch of space as they grapple at the foot of the fence. Lee takes mount again, tries to snare Barboza in a guillotine, then goes back to dropping hammerfists. Barboza rolls for a leg and gets trapped on his side, where Lee abuses him with elbows to the side of the head. Referee Peterson is calling for Barboza to move, and "Junior" looks like he barely dodges a stoppage in the final 30 seconds.

Round 3

Barboza starts off strong with a pair of body kicks, but he soon finds himself on his back foot, then defending a takedown attempt. Lee has his double-leg stuffed but continues to press forward. Suddenly, Barboza whirls around with a spinning heel kick that grazes Lee right on the temple and turns the legs of the "Motown Phenom" to rubber. Barboza tries to blitzed his wounded opponent, but Lee, functioning on auto-pilot, somehow grabs hold of Barboza and wrestles him to the ground. Lee postures up and Barboza kicks him away, and now the lightweights are back on their feet. With 2:30 on the clock, Barboza looks to be turning the tables almost exactly halfway through the scheduled five-round bout. Lee is moving a little slower but looks to have shaken the cobwebs as he presses forward on Barboza yet again. Barboza is landing more jabs now, but Lee is still connecting with some heavy right hands and body kicks. Barboza lands a body kick in the final minute which looks like it should fold Lee in two, but the American doesn't budge.

Round 4

Barboza comes out firing vicious kicks at the body of Lee, who eats a big left hook from the Brazilian in an early exchange. Lee changes levels and drives Barboza against the fence with a double-leg, narrowly dodging a counter knee from the lanky striker. Barboza hits the deck and wraps up Lee in guard; Lee puts a forearm across Barboza's throat to make the position uncomfortable. Barboza opens his guard and grabs the fence to pivot away from the wall, a foul for which he's verbally warned by referee Peterson. Halfway through the round, Lee looks comfortable grinding on top, wearing on the lumped-up Barboza with short, grinding ground-and-pound. Barboza grabs the fence again as he tries to kick Lee away, but it doesn't get him anywhere as Lee steps over to full mount. Barboza kicks him back to half guard as they hit the final 90 seconds of the round. Barboza shrimps inside, grabbing for a leg, but again Lee makes him pay for the attempt with punches and elbows to the side of the head. Despite being stuck on the ground for most of the round, Barboza is still struggling and trying to escape at the horn.

Round 5

Barboza's right eye is looking rough as he comes off his stool for the final frame, and Lee doesn't help the matter as he adds to the swelling with a nasty cut. Lee is pressing the action but Barboza isn't quitting, still throwing spinning kicks, switch kicks and wind-up right hands, looking for a Hail Mary strike. Lee takes a hard kick to the body, then checks one aimed at his left leg. Barboza sprawls on a double-leg, but Lee pushes him to the wall with 3:30 remaining in the bout. Widening his base against the fence, Barboza underhooks Lee's left arm and escapes the American's clutches with 2:45 on the clock. Someone loses their mouthpiece as they disengage, and referee Peterson takes the opportunity to have Barboza's eye inspected. The cageside doctor takes one look at Barboza and advises the ref to stop the fight. Peterson says the cut was caused by a legal punch, giving Kevin Lee the fifth-round victory by way of technical knockout.
