Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Joseph Morales

Round 1

Figueiredo tries a spinning kick, defends a takedown attempt and hustles Morales against the fence. The Brazilian trips up Morales and plants him on the floor about a foot away from the fence, setting up on top in half guard. Morales shifts and puts Figueiredo in butterfly guard, so "Deus da Guerra" stands over his prone opponent. Figueiredo dodges a few upkicks and drops hammerfists on Morales, who's now stacked up against the fence. Referee Eduardo Herdy twice warns Morales for grabbing the fence as he kicks upward. Figueiredo comes down to Morales' closed guard, where the pace slows as the Team Alpha Male fighter wraps up tight. Referee Herdy orders the fighters back to their feet with 50 seconds on the clock. Morales steps into the pocket with his hands low and gets decked with a stiff jab to the grill. Figueiredo follows him to the floor and tries a one-armed guillotine, but Morales survives -- and dodges a few heavy hammerfists -- to hear the horn.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Figueiredo
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Figueiredo
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Figueiredo

Round 2

Figueiredo flashes a jab in Morales' face, then quickly slides out of the pocket to make Morales whiff on the counter. Superman punch lands for Figueiredo, followed by a body shot that puts Morales on his back foot. Figueiredo drops for a takedown attempt, appears to get stuffed, but overpowers Morales and drives him to the floor with his second effort. Morales puts Figueiredo in guard as they fight at the base of the fence, now begins shifting and pulling on Figueiredo's head, hunting for a triangle or armbar. Figueiredo lands a hard elbow from the top, opening a cut underneath Morales' righr eye. Morales once again grabs the fence and has his hand slapped away by the ref. Back up jumps Morales, and the flyweights resume striking with two minutes left in the round. Figueiredo shifts to southpaw stance and puts a hard kick across Morales' midsection. Morales throws a low kick and gets countered with a right hand over the top, and Figueiredo follows with a lead uppercut a few seconds later. Morales gets backed up to the fence, where Figueiredo floors him with a beautiful right hook-left uppercut combo. Four or five follow-up punches on the ground later, referee Herdy steps in to stop the fight.

The Official Result

Deiveson Figueiredo def. Joseph Morales via TKO (Punches) R2 4:34

Iuri Alcantara vs. Joe Soto

Round 1

Alcantara takes the center of the cage and fires a heavy kick into the right side of Soto's body. The former Bellator champ tries a takedown and gets pushed away by "Marajo," who lands another body kick. This one appears to sting Soto, who circles away as Alcantara walks him down with hands by his waist. Alcantara floors Soto with a combination, putting the American on the mat at the base of the fence. Alcantara is all over his downed opponent, swarming with punches until referee Osiris Maia steps in to rescue Soto from further damage. Alcantara's home-state fans go wild as he leaps across the cage, bringing Brazilians to 2-0 on the night against foreign opposition.

The Official Result

Iuri Alcantara def. Joe Soto via TKO (Kick to the Body and Punches) R1 1:06

Maia Kahaunaele-Stevenson vs. Polyana Viana Mota

Round 1

Viana presses forward to slug Stevenson with a right hook, then plants the American on the floor with a hip toss. Stevenson posts and stands, only to be driven down again seconds later, Viana's second takedown in the opening minute. Viana attacks the right arm of Stevenson, stepping over the top to try and go belly-down with the submission attempt. After a brief struggle and some hammerfists, Viana finally rolls over the top and onto her back, stretching out Stevenson for the standard armbar. Stevenson gets a bend in her elbow and rolls into Viana, alleviating the pressure on her arm before scrambling back to her feet. Viana catches her standing opponent in a front headlock, hitting Stevenson with a couple knees as she looks to lock up a guillotine. Viana can't secure the choke but does manage to force Stevenson back to the ground. Posturing up, nearly mounting Stevenson, the Brazilian drops a hard right hand from top position. To avoid being mounted, Stevenson rolls over, giving up her back; Viana wastes no time securing back-mount and locking up a tight rear-naked choke, forcing Stevenson to tap in a hurry.

The Official Result

Polyana Viana def. Maia Stevenson via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) R1 3:50

Damir Hadzovic vs. Alan Patrick Silva Alves

Round 1

Patrick slips throwing a kick and has to dodge punches from Hadzovic as he scrambles to his feet. Hadzovic gets overly aggressive with a knee attempt and is taken down by the Brazilian, who quickl passes to side control. Hadzovic powers back to his feet, gets pushed against the fence and then tripped back to the ground. This time, Patrick tries to take the back of Hadzovic as the lightweights stand up. Hadzovic uses the cage to scrape "Nuguette" off his back and then blocks the Brazilian's subsequent takedown attempt. Patrick shoots again and completes another takedown at the halfway point of the round. Hadzovic throws up his hips and attacks the left arm of Patrick with an armbar. Patrick stands up and slams his way free, but as soon as they hit the ground again, Hadzovic is angling for another armbar. Patrick jams the Bosnian up against the fence, but Hadzovic is able to get back on his feet with 60 seconds on the clock. Patrick scores another takedown, tries and fails to catch Hadzovic in a guillotine as they stand again. Patrick tries a high-crotch single-leg takedown, but Hadzovic stays standing. Patrick goes after the takedown again, puts Hadzovic on his knees at the base of the wall and then goes wild with left hands, looking at referee Mario Yamasaki for a stoppage which does not materialize before the horn.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Patrick
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Patrick
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Patrick

Round 2

Hadzovic denies the first takedown attempt of round two, but Patrick shoots again and plants the "Bosnian Bomber" on his back near the fence. Hadzovic rolls to his knees, trying to stand, but he's unable to climb to his feet before Patrick jumps on his back and sinks in both hooks. Patrick immediately attacks the neck with a rear-naked choke, but Hadzovic peels away the Brazilian's hands to fend off the submission. Patrick releases and postures up to land some left hands, trying to soften up Hadzovic before going for the choke again. The lightweights roll away from the fence, but Patrick stays locked on Hadzovic's back with a body triangle. Hadzovic tucks his chin and tries rolling to either side, attempting to loosen Patrick's back-mount and explode out. Patrick isn't going anywhere, though, and Hadzovic is looking very tired as he throws no-look, over-the-shoulder right hands in Patrick's direction.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-8 Patrick
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Patrick
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Patrick

Round 3

Hadzovic shuts down Patrick's initial takedown attempt, giving the Brazilian a hard knee to the gut as he shoots inside. Patrick keeps coming, though, and Hadzovic can't resist the second shot of the round. Hadzovic scoots from the center of the cage out to the fence, but Patrick is staying heavy on top, maintining position and taking few chances with his top-side offense. Hadzovic kicks off the fence, winds up on his knees and then powers back to his feet. Patrick doesn't let him go far, immediately latching on to one of Hadzovic's legs for another takedown attempt. The single-leg works for "Nuguette" yet again, and once more he works his way onto Hadzovic's back. With one minute on the clock, Patrick is hunting for a late rear-naked choke. The tired Hadzovic continues to defend well, locking down Patrick's left hand. Fittingly, though, it's Patrick who ends the fight in the dominant position.

Tim Means vs. Sergio Moraes

Round 1

After 30 seconds of circling, Moraes steps inside on the lanky Means, grabs hold and pulls the American to the ground. "Serginho" begins to work his guard, trying to slide underneath Means to attack a leg or take the back. Means wants no part of it and jumps back to his feet, where he fires a left high kick that Moraes has to get a full arm up to block. Means catches a kick and Moraes pulls guard again; this time, Means doesn't entertain the jiu-jitsu ace and stays standing. Back on his feet, Moraes tags Means with a left hook, then a hard kick to the body. Means is having difficulty finding his range, though he does touch Moraes with a right hand to the breadbasket. Means ducks inside to tie up, and the welterweights clash heads violently, though neither looks any worse for wear afterward. Means continues to duck low as he steps inside, putting his head on a good level for Moraes to land hooks. Moraes shoots for a single-leg, can't get the takedown this time. Means eats another nasty right hook from Moraes in the final 30 seconds.

Round 2

The fighters clash heads again early in the second stanza, and this time Means complains to referee Eduardo Herdy about the inadvertant foul. Means keeps Moraes on the outside with some long body work in the opening minute. Means catches a kick and throws a left hand as Moraes spins around, appearing to catch the Brazilian on the back of the head. Moraes eats a left hand, but swings right back and zaps Means with yet another big right hook. To the body goes Moraes, ripping into Means with a hard hook. Means ducks under the next right hand, but Moraes is waiting with a follow-up left that connects. Means touches Moraes with a hard counter left hand as the Brazilian gets sloppy stepping inside. Moraes gets his face slapped with a high kick and gives a look of frustration as he tries to press forward on the taller man. Moraes is telegraphing his shots with big, wind-up punches, leaving himself exposed to Means' snappy counters. Means goes body-head with a pair of jabs and catches a kick, further frustrating Moraes in the final minute of round two.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Means
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Means

Round 3

Means looks to be the fresher fighter as the final round begins, and his volume is putting Moraes under pressure, forcing him to move backward. Moraes continues to connect with some heavy shots, however, tagging Means with sporadic hooks, usually a few at a time. Means snaps back Moraes' head with a stiff jab, follows up with another pair of punches. Moraes is backed up to the fence, where Means walks him down and delivers a knee to the gut. Halfway through the round, it's Means taking control of the action, keeping heavy pressure on the fading Moraes. "The Panther" keeps swinging, putting Means on notice with more hard punches. Means, though, is overwhelming the Brazilian with a variety of strikes, mixing up punches and kicks to the head, body and legs. Moraes tries to clinch and is shoved halfway across the cage by Means. Back on their feet with 40 seconds left, Means connects with a right hand and Moraes stumbles to the ground. Means opts to dive down into Moraes' guard with an elbow, but then stands up to finish the final 20 seconds on the feet. Moraes is swinging for a finish and lands a couple heavy punches in the final seconds, but this one will be decided by the judges.

Thiago Santos vs. Anthony Smith

Round 1

Smith takes the center of the cage to start the bout, but he's quickly backed up by a heavy body kick. Santos slips throwing his next kick and has to scramble back to his feet before Smith can capitalize on the error. Santos keeps the kicks coming, whirling around with a spinning strike that appears to sting Smith. "Marreta" gets too aggressive as he blitzes his opponent, and Smith is able to easily wrestle him to the ground. Smith steps straight over to full mount, flattening out Santos on his back, and the Brazilian crowd goes quiet very quickly. Smith takes a moment to secure his position, postures up to throw an elbow and is immediately swept. Now it's Santos on top, working from Smith's closed guard with three minutes on the clock. The 6-foot-4 Smith tries to lock up a triangle even as he's jammed against the fence, but Santos stays out of trouble by posturing up in the guard of the long-limbed middleweight. Referee Marc Goddard calls for action as the pace slows on the ground with 90 seconds left. Smith tries to shrimp inside and stand, but Santos traps him against the wall in the seated position and lands a few short left hands to the face. Suddenly, Smith powers back to his feet and rushes after Santos, catching the Brazilian bouncing off the fence to deliver a knee. Santos gets upright and eats a standing elbow, but he tags Smith simultaneously and it's the American who hits the deck. Santos is cut open, bleeding from his brow as he holds the kneeling Smith on the ground for the remainder of the round.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Santos
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Santos
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Santos

Round 2

Santos backs up Smith with a body kick, then adds a pair of shots to the inside of the American's lead leg. Smith presses forward and takes another kick to the body; this one lands square to the liver, and Smith can't help but double over as his body seizes up. Smith drops to one knee up against the fence, and Santos tries to pound him out with standing left hands. Smith clings to a leg, trying to stay alive, but "Marreta" continues to pound away, forcing referee Marc Goddard to intervene. Brazilian fighters continue their winning ways, improving to 6-0 on the night against their international opposition.

The Official Result

Thiago Santos def. Anthony Smith via TKO (Kick to the Body and Punches) R2 1:03

Douglas de Andrade vs. Marlon Vera

Round 1

Andrade comes out swinging with a left hook-overhand right that surprises Vera, but doesn't connect cleanly. The Brazilian takes the center of the cage and continues to swing for the fences with right hands aimed at the Ecuadorian's head. Vera strikes back with a loud kick to Andrade's midsection, then backs up to avoid another right hand. Vera lands a low kick but gets a heavy body shot in return, as Andrade digs in with a left hook. Vera catches a kick but can't make anything happen before Andrade yanks the leg back. Andrade blocks a left high kick from his lanky opponent, then fires back with a body kick. Vera gets backed up by a three-punch combo, but he soon charges forward with a combination of his own that puts Andrade's back against the wall. Andrade throws a huge lead uppercut to the body of Vera, follows with a low kick and then shoots inside to try a takedown. Vera hits the deck for a split second, then springs back to his feet and is suplexed to the mat just before the horn.

Round 2

The bantamweights exchange low kicks before Andrade comes swinging forward with more rockets aimed at Vera's head. Vera catches a kick from the Brazilian and trips him up, forcing him to step backward. Soon it's Andrade coming forward again, connecting with a left that cuts Vera open along the brow. A big left hook slams into Vera's right eye; Vera thinks he's been poked, but referee Camila Albuquerque tells him to fight on. Andrade wags his finger, too, and marches on the wounded Vera with follow-up punches. Vera is stuck in reverse here, halfway through the round and the fight, under constant pressure from "D'Silva." Andrade snaps back Vera's head with a straight left, but "Chito" comes back with a left high kick, then narrowly misses with a jump knee. Andrade rips into Vera's midsection with another lead uppercut, then times a Vera low kick and blasts him over the top with a left. Vera's face is a bloody mess, his right eye swollen as Andrade backs him up against the wall. Andrade is landing almost at will now, but Vera is eating everything that the Brazilian has to offer so far.

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Andrade
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Andrade

Round 3

The bantamweights jab at one another in the opening minute, with Vera trying to use his length to step inside and deliver some clinch strikes. Andrade's speed and power are keeping the Ecuadorian on the outside, despite his length, and now Andrade goes back to his blistering body work with another uppercut. Vera stands tall and jabs at Andrade, but he's soon on his back foot again as "D'Silva" throws more power punches and low kicks. Vera backs up Andrade to the wall and connects with a good left hand, but Andrade quickly ducks underneath and escapes the dangerous position. The 135ers meet in the center of the cage with 90 seconds on the clock. Andrade isn't slowing down the stretch, continuing his varied attack with punches, low kicks and even some slashing up-elbows. Vera takes it all, including a spinning backfist that bounces off his forehead in the final seconds. After the horn, Andrade throws a late flying knee which thankfully doesn't land, then shouts and gestures at Vera as referee Camila Albuquerque steps between them.

Marcelo Golm vs. Timothy Johnson

Round 1

The southpaw Johnson steps forward with long left hands but can't find the mark on Golm in the opening minute. Golm responds with a few leg kicks before clinching up with Johnson, who lands a couple hard shots to the Brazilian's body. The heavyweights wind up on the fence, Johnson on the outside holding Golm in place with an underhook. Golm tries to reverse and trip, but Johnson keeps his balance. The big men separate with three minutes on the clock. Johnson ducks under a punch from Golm and slugs him with a left hand. The American initiates the tie-up again, giving Golm a few more knees in the clinch as they hit the fence. A clash of heads appears to have opened a cut on the inside of Johnson's right eye socket. The fighters separate with one minute left in the opening round. Golm only manages to land a single leg kick before Johnson wraps him up and shoves him to the wall again.

Round 2

Golm backs up to avoid a big combination from Johnson, then stings the American with a right high kick that goes through Johnson's left glove. Johnson shoots for a takedown at the fence, winds up doubled over working the double-leg, then has to come upright as Golm lands rapid-fire elbows to the side of his head. Golm separates, waits for Johnson to come forward and lands a cracking low kick. The fighters clash heads again as they tie up, this time with Golm taking the outside position on the fence. Johnson reverses to the outside, throws a few knees at Golm's legs and then gets spun around again. The heavyweights continue to trade positions in the clinch until the 45-second mark, when they meet in the center of the cage. Johnson throws a hard knee to the body as he pushes Golm against the fence again. Johnson lands a glancing spinning elbow as they disconnect in the closing seconds.

Round 3

Golm ducks under a wide right hand from Johnson and goes low with a right hand to the body. Johnson takes a hard kick to the inside of his right leg and does a full 360 as he backs away. After a brief clinch, Johnson leaps forward and touches Golm with a lunging combination. An uppercut connects on the backpedaling Golm before Johnson rattles the Brazilian's brain with three or four punches in quick succession. Three minutes remain in the bout as Johnson jams Golm up against the fence yet again. Golm tries to escape with an overhook but is held in place by Johnson, who's keeping busy with foot stomps as the Brazilian crowd boos. Referee Osiris Maia separates the fighters with 1:45 on the clock. Golm lands a big clinch knee, but Johnson just eats it and takes a step backward. Johnson reverses course and comes forward on Golm with another sequence of punches, allowing him to get into range and push Golm against the wall again. Golm is struggling to free himself but can't find an inch of space as Johnson leans all of his weight against the Brazilian. Golm finally gets off the fence and hits Johnson with another clinch knee, but it's not enough to bring down the American, and this one will go to the judges.

Desmond Green vs. Michel Prazeres

Round 1

Prazeres opens with a pair of kicks to the body of southpaw Green, then tries to go upstairs and is blocked. "Tractor" catches a kick and trips Green to the ground, but Green springs right back to his feet and turns the tides with a takedown of his own. Green nearly takes the back of Prazeres before the Brazilian twists around to take top position. The lightweights scramble up in the whizzer, and now Green uses a bodylock to hold Prazeres against the wall. Referee Marc Goddard calls for work, and Prazeres obliges by shoving Green away and marching back to the center of the cage. Prazeres ducks in behind a right hand and ankle-picks Green to the ground. Green tries to keep the scramble going and winds up on his stomach, with Prazeres landing punches to the back of his head. Referee Goddard orders the fighters to stand, issues a warning to Prazeres and restarts the fight on the feet. Prazeres nearly hits another single-leg, but this time Green keeps his balance and jams him up against the fence. Green trips Prazeres to the floor, landing in side control, but he can't do anything with the position in the final 10 seconds.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Prazeres
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Green
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Green

Round 2

Green circles around the stocky Prazeres, who stays in the center and fires a nice left hand at the "Predator." Green just eats the punch, then takes another off his forearms before changing levels for a takedown in the middle. Prazeres takes a few seconds on his back, then kicks Green away and jumps back to his feet. Green puts "Tractor" on the fence with another single-leg attempt; Prazeres tries to do damage with elbows as he defends the shot. Prazeres fights his way off the fence, still tangled with Green, then tosses the American to the floor in the middle of the cage. Prazeres immediately steps over to full mount, tries to cinch up an arm-triangle, but Green goes belly down and frees himself from the dangerous position. Green climbs back to his feet but doesn't stay there for long, as Prazeres grabs his neck and jumps guard with a guillotine. Green escapes this, too, but Prazeres keeps him on the floor, as the Brazilian works from cross-side control with 40 seconds left. Prazeres goes to north-south position and sinks his hips to the canvas as he tries to choke out Green before time expires. Green rolls onto his side, escaping his third choke of the round, and he'll survive to see the third.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Prazeres
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Prazeres
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Prazeres

Round 3

Prazeres moves forward on Green in the opening minute, landing a leg kick that is one of the few strikes in a sparse start to the final frame. Both men try takedowns, and both are denied. Green's punches are looking increasingly tired, flailing at Prazeres and then leaving his hands low as he comes upright. Prazeres is more conservative in his attacks, keeping his punches compact and firing only from close range. Prazeres eats a straight right hand and keeps coming, picking at Green's legs with more kicks before firing an overhand right. Prazeres backs up to avoid a punch, then reverses course and drives on Green for another takedown. "Tractor" tries to mount, so Green rolls to his knees. Prazeres is once again warned for punching the back of Green's head. Green is trapped on his knees, doing nothing even as Prazeres looks up and has a brief conversation with referee Goddard about the legality of his punches. Green is still clung to Prazeres' right leg when the final horn sounds.

Priscila Cachoeira vs. Valentina Shevchenko

Round 1

Cachoeira presses forward on Shevchenko with her hands low and chin stuck out, and "Bullet" quickly makes her pay with a blistering left hook. Another left hand hits the wobbly Cachoeira, then a rapid-fire combination as she stumbles backward to the fence. Shevchenko adds a few more punches before putting Cachoeira on the ground and setting up in the Brazilian's guard. Shevchenko slows her pace momentarily, then postures up and begins to unload on the UFC newcomer with some hellacious elbows. Cachoeira is cut open less than two minutes into the fight, and Shevchenko looks to be on the verge of a stoppage as she elbows away with referee Mario Yamasaki standing nearby. The top of Cachoeira's head is jammed up against the fence, giving Shevchenko an easy target as she lands more elbow strikes. Shevchenko mixes in a few punches to the body, then stacks up Cachoeira to land one to the face. Cachoeira is a bloody mess, just hanging on from the bottom, trying to keep Shevchenko in her closed guard. Shevchenko still has a minute left to work as she softens up Cachoeira's body with a steady stream of short punches. Cachoeira ties up tight in the final 20 seconds, and she has somehow survived a nightmare round to hear the horn.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-8 Shevchenko
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-7 Shevchenko
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-7 Shevchenko

Round 2

Shevchenko ties up with Cachoeira in the center of the cage and hits a quick inside trip, planting the Brazilian on the mat within the first few seconds of the round. Shevchenko moves to side control, then locks down Cachoeira's left arm between her legs and leans across. Referee Yamasaki is having a close look as Shevchenko lands unfettered right hands. Cachoeira is trapped, unable to escape the crucifix, but Shevchenko abandons the position in favor of a kimura attempt on the far arm. Cachoeira pulls her arm free, so Shevchenko goes right back to the crucifix position and resumes her right-handed assault. Shevchenko's accumulation of strikes isn't enough for referee Yamasaki, who allows Cachoeira to continue her minimal attempts to escape. Shevchenko steps over to mount, begins unloading with punches, then takes back-mount when Cachoeira rolls over. Cachoeira turns over again, gets stuck on her side with Shevchenko raining down punches. Shevchenko sees an opening and gives up her ground-and-pound in favor of a rear-naked choke. Cachoeira taps out, finally ending what will surely be a contender for 2018's "Beatdown of the Year."

The Official Result

Valentina Shevchenko def. Priscila Cachoeira via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) R2 4:25

Lyoto Machida vs. Eryk Anders

Round 1

English referee Marc Goddard is the third man in the cage for tonight's middleweight main event, with judges Guilherme Bravo, Marcos Rosales and Tony Weeks scoring the bout. Machida hops backward in his wide karate stance as fellow southpaw Anders presses out cautiously from the center. Machida opens his account with a few inside leg kicks; Anders is still waiting for an opening after 60 seconds. A low kick chops the lead leg out from underneath Anders, who has to put his back on the mat to get his head away from the fists of still-standing Machida. After briefly working from Anders' guard, Machida stands over his prone foe and navigates a few upkicks, then lands three hard kicks to Anders' legs. The protracted struggle in Ali-Inoki position continues through the middle of the round. Referee Goddard offers a few warnings before Machida comes down to the ground, popping Anders with three or four quick punches. The fighters scramble to their feet, where Anders presses forward again. Machida starts dancing a bit as he circles the outside, while Anders seems stuck, walking around the cage with the Brazilian but not doing much in terms of offense.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Machida
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Machida
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Machida

Round 2

Anders comes forward and lands a perfectly timed straight left, sent right over the top as Machida threw a kick. Anders shoves Machida against the fence, where "The Dragon" has a chance to recover from the hardest punch he's taken so far in the bout. The 185ers are back to circling with 3:30 on the clock, still with Anders pressing forward and Machida circling backward. Anders isn't throwing much, giving Machida few opportunities to counter and leading to a bit of a stalemate. Machida steps into the pocket with a knee to the body of Anders, then shoves away and resumes his circling. Anders fires a big left hand, but Machida takes it on the shoulder as he dashes away. Anders takes another big kick to his right leg, though the former football player keeps his balance this time. Anders stuns Machida with a straight left in the last 20 seconds, but again Machida is able to recover when Anders chooses to tie up rather than stay at range.

Round 3

Machida lands a clean body kick, but Anders catches hold of the leg and uses it to run the Brazilian to the ground. Up against the fence, Machida posts and stands, eating a knee from Anders along the way. Machida is cut open, a nasty slice across his forehead that's leaking blood all over his nose and mouth, down onto his chest. The middleweights get back to their same pattern from round two, with Machida cutting angles around the perimeter while Anders tries to walk him down from the middle. Machida lands a single straight left and then goes back to the outside. One minute remains in what has been a very sparse third round. Anders keeps chasing and touches Machida with another left hand over the top. Machida sprints away, but Anders catches up and hugs him against the fence, hunting for a trip in the closing seconds.

Round 4

Machida stays in the pocket and zaps Anders with the first left hand he throws. Anders tries to come forward and gets sparked by Machida with a nasty kick to the midsection. Machida fires a front kick to the body, backpedals and makes Anders whiff on a reaching combination. Things slow down in the second minute, as Anders continues to try and close the gap. Machida gets caught up at the fence, stumbles to the ground and has to power his way back up as Anders leans on him. Anders traps Machida against the fence, using his left arm as an underhook and his right hand to control Machida's far wrist. Machida, leaking blood all over the leaning Anders' back, does some work with a pair of knees to the American's gut. The fighters separate with just over 90 seconds on the clock. Anders catches a kick and uses the leg to run Machida against the wall. Machida does well to keep his balance but ultimately succumbs to Anders' single-leg takedown. Back up comes Machida, still held against the fence by Anders with an underhook. Anders takes a knee to the body and releases the clinch just before the horn.

Round 5

The final round begins with a now-familiar sight: Anders creeping forward from the center of the cage, trying to close the distance on Machida, who moves side to side with his back near the fence. Machida lands a leg kick and little else in a tense opening minute. Anders gets his glove up to block a left high kick, then continues trying to cut off Machida's angles. Anders takes a kick to the gut and narrowly misses with a counter left hand over the top. Halfway through the round, Anders catches up with Machida and shoves him against the fence; Machida is quick to push him off and circle out to the center. With 90 seconds left, Machida zaps Anders with a step-in knee to the midsection. Anders just keeps inching forward, not throwing or opening up much. Machida gets caught throwing a spinning backfist and tossed to the ground, but the middleweights scramble back to their feet immediately. Anders comes ahead swinging and dodges a Machida counter as the final horn sounds.
