Volkov and Stefan
Struve earned “Fight of the Night” honors and $50,000 apiece
for their heavyweight battle in the
UFC Fight Night 115 headliner in Rotterdam, Netherlands, on
Saturday. After suffering a gash under his eye from a Struve knee
late in round one, Volkov picked up the pace and ultimately put his
foe away with a volley of punches near the cage at the 3:30 mark of
the third period.
Taisumov was an easy choice for a $50,000 “Performance of the
Night” bonus thanks to his first-round knockout of Felipe
Silva in a preliminary lightweight encounter. Early in the
frame, Silva attempted to walk his foe down, but after he missed
with a right hand, Taisumov connected with a clean counter right.
Silva immediately fell face first to the canvas, giving Taisumov
the emphatic triumph 84 seconds after the bout began.
Finally, newcomer Zibat Magomedsharipov captured the card’s other
$50,000 “Performance of the Night” award for a second-round
submission victory against Mike
Santiago at featherweight. Magomedsharipov utilized created
striking early before grounding his opponent and securing a
rear-naked choke 4:22 into the second frame.
