Ultimate Fighting Championship bantamweight contender Aljamain Sterling (14-3) is ready for his next assignment inside the Octagon and has his sights set on former bantamweight king Dominick Cruz (22-2).

Sterling last fought in April in Atlantic City at UFC Fight Night 128 against Brett Johns. The 28 year-old was victorious over the three rounds, winning by unanimous decision.

The win gave Sterling some much-needed confidence after coming off his devastating knockout loss to Marlon Moraes in December. During the post-fight interview after his win against Johns, the current No. 7 ranked bantamweight called out the former champion Cruz, telling him “It’s time for the idols to become the rivals.”

It appears Sterling still wants that fight to happen and even made a post on Twitter about it suggesting he’d like to face Cruz in August at UFC 227.

Sterling recently went to the UK for a promotional tour for the UFC Liverpool event, where he spent time with the fans while attending the fight. It’s down to business now for Sterling, who’s back in the states training and focusing on his next fight.

Cruz hasn’t fought since his unanimous decision loss to Cody Garbrandt back in December 2016 when he lost the bantamweight title. Before his loss to Garbrandt, the two-time bantamweight champion Cruz was on a 13-fight winning streak, which even included a win over flyweight champion Demetrius Johnson.
