UFC 220 Medical Suspensions: Volkan Oezdemir Gets 45-Day Term After TKO Defeat
By: Tristen Critchfield Jan 30, 2018
There were no especially lengthy medical suspensions handed down
220, but light heavyweight title challenger Volkan
Oezdemir could be out a little more than a month.
Oezdemir suffered a second-round technical knockout loss to
Cormier in the evening’s co-main event at the TD Garden in
Boston on Jan. 20. As a result, the Swiss fighter has received a
45-day medical suspension. Cormier emerged from the card with a
clean bill of health.
The Massachusetts State Athletic Commission released medical
suspensions from UFC 220 on Tuesday. Specific reasons for each term
were not disclosed.
The lengthiest medical suspension imposed from the event was 60
days. Three competitors – Shane
Homasi and Gleison
Tibau – received the two-month layoff. Also of note: Francis
Ngannou got a 30-day suspension following his five-round
decision defeat to Stipe
Miocic in the heavyweight championship headliner.
