Zach Makovsky vs. Dustin Ortiz

Round 1

Ortiz crouches low and presses forward on the southpaw Makovsky, who stays on his back foot and looks to counter. Forty seconds in, the flyweights clinch up and move to the fence, where Ortiz gets tripped up but regains his footing to keep "Fun Size" trapped on the wall. Ortiz pulls Makovsky away from the fence and lands a solid knee to the body before they separate. Ortiz shoots in again and gets a knee to the body, but he gets hold of Makovsky and pulls him to the ground, spinning to take Makovsky's back in the process. Ortiz starts working for a choke, but he's only got one hook in, and Makovsky is able to reverse to top position. Ortiz stands and backs up to the wall, but Makovsky stays with him, picks the ankle and takes him down at the base of the fence. Makovsky gets spun against the wall, briefly looks for a kimura and then stands up, still pinned to the cage with an underhook. Ortiz works the body of Makovsky with some uppercuts and knees; Makovsky returns fire with a slashing elbow, leaving the right brow of Ortiz with a small cut. They separate with 45 seconds left, but Ortiz throws a low kick and Makovsky easily converts it to a takedown. Makovsky takes the back of Ortiz, but he can't hold it as Ortiz rolls over to finish the round on top.

Round 2

Makovsky comes out aggressive to start round two, but when flyweights clinch up again, Ortiz scores with a knee to the body and then pushes Makovsky against the fence. Ortiz drops levels, spins to Makovsky's back with a rear waistlock, lifts and slams the wrestler to the ground. Makovsky is back on his feet within seconds, but Ortiz keeps him on the fence to land more short punches in the clinch. Ortiz drops down to hit a single-leg takedown, but Makovsky finds a possible armbar in the transition. Ortiz rolls into it, relieving the pressure on his arm to take top position again. Makovsky rolls over, giving up his back to Ortiz, who secures the position with a body triangle. Makovsky turns into the triangle and frees himself with just over a minute remaining, but with 40 seconds left, Ortiz takes him down again. Ortiz stands over the kneeling Makovsky and drops punches until Makovsky stands in the final 10 seconds.

Round 3

Makovsky shoots for an early takedown and gets caught in a one-armed headlock by Ortiz, who uses the hold to slow Makovsky's attack on the ground for a good 20 seconds. Ortiz hits a butterfly sweep and scrambles to his feet, but Makovsky shoots again and nearly takes Ortiz's back in a scramble. Makovsky transitions to an armbar attempt, but Ortiz stands right up. Now it's Ortiz shooting low; he's denied by Makovsky, who reversed for a single-leg attempt of his own. Ortiz sprawls and pops Makovsky with a few short punches to the head, then changes levels and floors Makovsky once again. Ortiz nearly steps over to full mount but winds up caught in Makovsky's deep half guard. After dropping a few elbows, Ortiz spins to north-south position, and both fighters scramble to their feet. They tie up on the fence and Ortiz pulls Makovsky to the ground with back control, but Makovsky is able to get back to his feet. Ortiz walks after Makovsky and throws a high kick, caught by "Fun Size" and turned into a takedown. Ortiz sweeps immediately into top position, and that's where it ends.

Rustam Khabilov vs. Jason Saggo

Round 1

Khabilov tries to finish the punch with one fight but whiffs on a huge sledgehammer right hand over the top. Saggo uses some front kicks to keep the Russian out of range, then ducks under Khabilov's next big right hand. Khabilov pushes inside with a combination, catches a kick but can't find Saggo with the counter right. The lightweights reset in the center of the cage, now halfway through a very tentative opening round. Khabilov throws another big right over the top, partially landed, but Saggo rolls with it and doesn't get the full force of the blow. Khabilov shoots inside and plows Saggo to the ground, where the Canadian uses rubber guard to neutralize any potential ground-and-pound offense. Khabilov manages to get in a few short punches and slams, but Saggo's tight guard makes things difficult for the man on top in the final 90 seconds.

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Khabilov
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Khabilov

Round 2

Khabilov comes out slinging the right hand again, this time trying to set it up with some probing left hooks. Saggo tries some high kicks, but they're deflected by the Dagestan native. Khabilov scores with a few inside leg kicks, each time slipping his head off center to dodge Saggo's wide counters. Two minutes in, the lightweights continue to circle, neither having taken control of the round so far. Inside the two-minute mark, Khabilov catches hold of a low kick and drives Saggo back to the canvas. This time, Saggo's guard isn't quite as sticky, allowing Khabilov to work some short punches to the body. Saggo looks to be angling for a triangle, forcing Khabilov to back up and stand. Saggo jumps to his feet, too, but he's greeted by a pair of hard, straight punches from the "Tiger." Khabilov is breathing a little heavier as round two winds down, but he still manages to stuff a Saggo shot and reverse it into one more takedown of his own.

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Khabilov

Round 3

Saggo switches stances in front of Khabilov and throws a few feints, but it's Khabilov connecting with a right hand as he steps inside. Saggo comes forward again, now working from the middle and chasing the backpedaling Khabilov around the edge of the cage. Khabilov takes a kick to the body but comes back with a left hook counter. Saggo throws a high kick, partially landed to Khabilov's chest. Khabilov misses as he tries to push off the cage with a Superman punch. He keeps coming forward and changes levels to bring Saggo to the ground with less than three minutes left in the bout. Saggo uses rubber guard to negate the space, throws up a triangle and has his posture broken by Khabilov, who stands up and comes back down in half guard to land a pair of right hands. Khabilov throws punches to the body, follows Saggo as he scrambles back to his feet and then takes him down again with 45 seconds remaining. Both men look exhausted as Khabilov rests on top and the prone Saggo tries to score with short punches from the bottom.

John Makdessi vs. Lando Vannata

Round 1

Vannata uses some inside leg and body kicks to step inside and clip Makdessi with a right hand, but Makdessi tags him back with a stiff jab on the nose. Vannata continues to press forward, takes another jab to the face and a low kick. Makdessi circles away to his left near the fence, and suddenly, Vannata whips around with a spinning wheel kick that lands clean on the chin. Makdessi drops to his back, eyes still open but completely stiff, and referee Todd Anderson rushes in for the stoppage. Lando Vannata produces a "Knockout of the Year" contender midway through the opening round.

The Official Result

Lando Vannata def. John Makdessi via KO (Spinning Wheel Kick) R1 1:40

Mitch Gagnon vs. Matthew Lopez

Round 1

Gagnon catches a low kick and rushes Lopez against the fence, but Lopez spins him around and separates with an elbow to the face of the Canadian. Back inside comes Gagnon, this time with a Thai clinch to push Lopez to the wall. Gagnon drops to try a takedown, can't get it and comes back up with underhooks. Lopez hits a trip takedown, but the fighters scramble back up, now 90 seconds into the opening round. Lopez pushes Gagnon backward with a thudding body kick, but Gagnon catches him rushing in and floors the American with a left hook to the temple. Lopez clings to Gagnon's right leg, but Gagnon is in good position to smash away with left hands. Referee Jerin Valel is taking a close look, but Gagnon abandons the strikes in favor of taking Lopez's back. Gagnon tries for a rear-naked choke, can't get it and works the neck crank instead, but Lopez won't tap. Lopez looks to have cleared the cobwebs as he alertly flips over and takes top position, leaving the smaller Gagnon to try and elevate from the bottom. Lopez is measured on top with 90 seconds left, working slowly to keep Gagnon flat on the ground, though Gagnon manages to reclaim full guard. Gagnon throws up an armbar, forcing Lopez to stand, and the bantamweights are back to striking with 90 seconds left. Lopez scores with another nice body kick, but Gagnon wrestles him to the ground straight after. Both men go for leglocks, but they hit a stalemate and ride out the final 30 seconds with neither man forcing a tap.

Round 2

The 135ers fight on the fence in the opening minute, Gagnon working from the outside. They separate and Gagnon steps forward to land a leg kick, but Lopez uses Gagnon's momentum to ragdoll him to the ground. Lopez lands in full mount but gets pushed back to closed guard, where he throws short left hands to the body and head of Gagnon with 3:30 remaining in the round. Gagnon opens his guard and elevates Lopez, then swings his legs around for an armbar, but Lopez stands to disengage. Back down comes Lopez, again in full guard, now with half the round gone. Gagnon tries an armbar and gets rolled onto his knees, where Lopez stings him with right hands from behind. Gagnon scrambles toward the fence and turns his back against the wall, but Lopez peels him away and jumps on his back. Now it's Lopez hunting for a rear-naked choke with 90 seconds left. Gagnon locks down his opponent's arms and gets a breather in the dangerous position. Lopez slickly transitions into full mount and drops a few elbows on Gagnon's face before the bottom man is able to escape to his knees. Lopez socks Gagnon with a left hand as they stand, then floors him with another slam to finish the final 20 seconds on the mat.

Round 3

Gagnon's first kick of the round lands square on the cup of Lopez, who immediately drops to his knees in pain. Referee Valel calls time and tells Gagnon to mind the low kicks, and after a minute for Lopez to recover, they're back to business. Lopez scores another takedown inside the first minute of the round, and this time he transitions immediately onto Gagnon's back. Gagnon rolls his back onto the canvas as they grapple at the base of the fence, and now Lopez wraps up Gagnon from half guard. Lopez nearly takes the back again, but Gagnon rolls to his knees and jumps to his feet with three minutes left to fight. Lopez sticks backs up and sticks the incoming Gagnon with a jab-right hook, then a body kick, but the latter is snatched up by Gagnon and used to push Lopez against the wall. Lopez escapes and circles away, waits for Gagnon to step forward and then changes levels for a powerful double-leg takedown. Back at the foot of the fence, Gagnon tries to post and stand, but Lopez is wrapped around his torso, keeping him pinned down. After eating a few solid left hands, Gagnon rolls to his knees, allowing Lopez to jump on his back. Lopez nearly slides off as Gagnon tries to stand, but he takes out one of Gagnon's legs and breaks him back down to his knees. Lopez goes searching for a choke in the final 20 seconds, but Gagnon survives to hear the final horn.

Valerie Letourneau vs. Viviane Pereira

Round 1

Letourneau flicks out long jabs as she circles the diminutive Pereira in a slow opening minute to the bout. Pereira tries to wrap up Letourneau when she comes close enough, but Letourneau just peels her arms away and circles out. Letourneau catches a kick and runs Pereira to the ground, then steps over to full mount. Letourneau gift-wraps Pereira's right arm behind her and drops several punches to her unprotected face before the Brazilian is able to free her limb. Pereira puts her back flat on the mat and pushes Letourneau back to full guard, where the Canadian postures up to sock her opponent with right hands. "Sucuri" tries to work a guillotine from the bottom, but Letourneau escapes danger by passing to side control. Pereira shrimps underneath and creates space to scramble up, then pushes Letourneau against the wall with a bodylock. Letourneau is getting the better of the tie-up, though, as she shoots knees into Pereira's midsection. Pereira keeps digging for the takedown in the final minute, but Letourneau continues to defend while roughing up Pereira with knees.

Another slow opening minute sees Letourneau firing off jabs but unable to connect as Pereira is constantly on her back foot, outside of striking range. Two minutes in, Pereira finally throws a punch, though it doesn't land. Letourneau keeps jabbing, even though they pull up short; she puts a front kick in Pereira's midsection and gets swatted with a pair of counter punches. Letourneau slams a hard kick into Pereira's right ribcage, but Pereira takes it and grabs the leg to run "Trouble" against the wall with two minutes on the clock. Pereira hits a snap takedown to half guard but is quickly forced back to Letourneau's closed guard. Letourneau pulls rubber guard but gets stacked up, and now Pereira backs away to allow Letourneau to stand.

A nice left hand from Letourneau pops Pereira on the nose; "Sucuri" circles away and resets to hit Letourneau with a hard outside leg kick. With three minutes left, Pereira scores with a left hand to the body, then over the top with a right hand. Letourneau tags her back with a kick to the gut, another on the ribs. Pereira walks through a straight left hand to try and wrap up Letourneau, but the Canadian frees herself before they hit the fence. Down to the last 90 seconds, Pereira strikes with a jab and then shoves Letourneau against a cage post with a body lock. Letourneau creates space inside and hurls a pair of knees up at Pereira's chin. Letourneau breaks out and circles back to the middle, then sticks the incoming Pereira with a jab. Pereira's nose is bloodied as they swing punches in the closing seconds, and it's the Brazilian who gets the last word with a left hook and a leg kick.

Olivier Aubin-Mercier vs. Drew Dober

Round 1

The southpaws spend a tense 30 seconds dipping in and out of range, both men coming close with left hands. Dober touches Aubin-Mercier a few times, but the looping lefts are partially deflected by the Canadian's raised right arm. Dober chases Aubin-Mercier backward against the fence, where Aubin-Mercier slips a punch and slugs Dober with a lovely counter left. Dober hits the deck for a second but quickly jumps back to his feet, now with a bloody nose. Aubin-Mercier flashes a jab on Dober's nose, but Dober forces him to back up with a left hand. When Dober rushes to get inside again, however, Aubin-Mercier is waiting with the same counter that produced the knockdown. Aubin-Mercier continues to bust up Dober's nose while mixing in some nasty low kicks, all the while keeping Dober on the outside. Dober scores with a pair of left hands in the final 10 seconds, but he heads back to his corner with a bloody face and swollen eye.

Dober pounces on his downed opponent and fires punches to the body before he's wrapped up by Aubin-Mercier from underneath. Dober tries to create some space by putting a forearm across Aubin-Mercier's face, but the Canadian is keeping him wrapped up tight from the bottom. Dober stands up and Aubin-Mercier immediately grabs for a heel hook, then uses the leglock to sweep to top position. Dober rolls to his knees and scoots over to the fence with Aubin-Mercier transitioning onto his back, now with 3:00 on the clock. Aubin-Mercier cinches the position with a body triangle and goes looking for a rear-naked choke, defended well by Dober. Aubin-Mercier continues to bear down on Dober's face and eventually slips his right forearm underneath the American's chin. The choke is locked on in an instant; Dober tries to resist for a few seconds but is soon forced to tap out.

Misha Cirkunov vs. Nikita Krylov

Round 1

Cirkunov presses out from the center while Krylov bounces backward on his toes, firing off kicks to the Canadian's legs and body. Cirkunov returns fire with a high kick, can't find the mark; Krylov seems to land a low blow with an inside leg kick, but the 205ers touch gloves and continue fighting. Cirkunov ducks under a left high kick, wraps up Krylov and drives him to the mat with a double-leg takedown. Krylov holds Cirkunov in a headlock until he's able to stand up at the 3:00 mark. Cirkunov keeps his opponent trapped against the fence for a few seconds, but Krylov punches his way free with a glancing blow. Krylov lands a heavy body kick, caught by Cirkunov, who lands a right hand counter but eats one as well. Cirkunov keeps hold of the leg and converts it for a takedown, but Krylov scrambles up and turns the tables with a takedown of his own. Cirkunov hits a quick sweep to land on top with 90 seconds left; Krylov returns the favor and both men get back on their feet. Down to the final minute, Cirkunov steps inside with an overhand left that knocks Krylov against the cage. Cirkunov shoots in behind the damaging strike and scores another takedown, but he can't keep Krylov on the floor. Cirkunov keeps the pressure on and dodges a head kick to deliver a left straight. The punch lands clean and Krylov collapses to the ground; as slumps forward, Cirkunov wraps up his neck and jumps guard with a guillotine choke. Krylov tries to posture up and relieve the pressure on his neck, but Cirkunov has the choke locked in and the Ukrainian is forced to submit.

Emil Weber Meek vs. Jordan Mein

Round 1

The welterweights clash leg kicks in the opening seconds, then Mein lands an outside leg kick and Meek strikes back with a clubbing counter left hook. Mein shoots and completes a quick takedown, then seemingly allows Meek to stand up. Meek presses forward, walking into a couple jabs from Mein, who changes levels and plows the Norwegian to the ground again. This time, Mein passes to side control straight away, delivers a hard knee to the body and then moves to north-south position. Mein straddles his opponent's head, but Meek spins out and scrambles to his feet. Meek barges forward again, tags Mein with a right hand, now a left hook. Mein is eating some heavy punches here, and he shoots to try and slow Meek's assault. Meek fights him off and continues to attack with punches, but now Mein slows him down with a ripping body shot. Two minutes left in what has been a busy opening round, and Mein lands a stiff jab before ducking under a punch and taking down Meek again. Meek tries to hit the switch but winds up kneeling with Mein behind him, and now Meek is grimacing, making pained noises. The welterweights scramble up with 60 seconds on the clock and Mein connects with a body kick, now a hard two-piece combo. Meek slugs him back, but Mein just grins at him and dashes away to reset. Meek slows things down with a labored single-leg attempt that takes up the final 20 seconds of the round.

Meek nearly steps over to full mount, gets caught in Mein's deep half guard, but "Valhalla" still has room to frame up an arm-triangle choke. Mein bucks and loosens Meek's grip but can't escape from the bottom, now with a minute left to fight in the middle round. Meek just stays heavy on top in half guard, then starts winding up for some hard right hands in the final 20 seconds.

Tim Kennedy vs. Kelvin Gastelum

Round 1

Kennedy wraps up Gastelum in a waistlock and hurls him to the ground, then transitions onto his back. Gastelum fights away Kennedy's hands as the Jackson-Wink MMA fighter hunts for a rear-naked choke. Gastelum gets to his knees and Kennedy loses his hooks, and now the 185ers stand up with Kennedy still holding Gastelum in a bodylock. Kennedy works knees to Gastelum's thighs and backside, forcing Gastelum to defend at all times by hanging his weight off his back. Gastelum makes a frustrated face and throws up his hands shortly before Kennedy finally disengages. One minute left in the round, and suddenly it's Gastelum coming forward, pushing back Kennedy's head with jabs. Kennedy clinches up and takes a glance at the clock, but Gastelum separates and backs him up to the fence with more punches. The middleweights duck in and out of range until Kennedy shoots and completes a takedown at the fence. Gastelum rolls him over and escapes to his feet, then pops Kennedy with a left hand. Gastelum is breathing heavy but still firing hard punches, denying Kennedy's attempts to clinch. Kennedy's face is a mess as he stumbles forward, trying to get hold of his foe. Gastelum just shoves him away and pours on the punches, and this time Kennedy collapses under the punishment. Referee John McCarthy steps in to rescue the ruined Kennedy from further damage.

Cub Swanson vs. Doo Ho Choi

Round 1

Swanson steps inside to tie up and gets a hard knee to the gut, then another. Swanson drops levels momentarily, comes back up and gets two or three hard knees to the head before Choi releases him. Choi pumps piston jabs at Swanson, forcing him to circle around the outside. Swanson tries to fend off the young Korean with low and spinning kicks but can't quite connect. Swanson eats a jab, tries to blitz Choi with an uppercut and gets caught with a body kick. Choi snipes over Swanson's guard with a nifty right hand; Swanson gets caught leaning forward and takes an uppercut on the jaw. Swanson tries to clinch, gets his head pulled down and kneed again by Choi, who puts the veteran's back against the wall with about two minutes remaining. Swanson reverses to the outside and throws some knees at Choi's thighs, then steps back and separates. Choi's lightning fast jab is in and out before Swanson can react, and now the "Korean Superboy" steps forward with another right hand. Now it's Swanson's turn to stick a jab that bloodies Choi's nose, but the California native misses on his follow-up kicks. Swanson shoots for a late takedown, but Choi keeps his balance until the horn.

Both featherweights come out swinging, but it's Swanson pressuring Choi with clubbing hooks, followed by a clinch in the center of the cage. Choi disengages and flashes his jab, but it's Swanson clipping Choi with a right hand on the temple. Choi is wobbling all over the cage, dropping to his knees at one point as Swanson tries to polish him off with punches. In a flash, Choi has Swanson hurt with a volley of punches, and now it's Choi swinging for the fences and a finish. Swanson gets hold of him and trips him to the ground, then tries to take Choi's back in the scramble. Choi puts his back on the ground and puts Swanson in half guard, and now the 145er work back to their feet after a brief rest on the mat. Both guys are still looking for the knockout, both swinging head kicks and big right hands. Choi presses forward but walks into a right hand from Swanson, and now the Korean wobbles back to the fence. Swanson tries to take off Choi's head with follow-up punches, but Choi somehow stays standing under the assault. Choi keeps coming with a knee to the body, another right hand before wrapping up Swanson by the waist and pulling him to the ground. Before Choi can establish back-mount, Swanson rolls over into top position. Choi tries to hit the sweep, winds up holding Swanson in butterfly guard and drilling the top of his head with elbow strikes. Swanson stands up and Choi trips him up with an ankle pick, then scrambles to his feet. Swanson marches him down with punches, gets him against the fence and uses a head-and-arm throw to hurl Choi to the mat. Choi escapes from the bulldog choke position and gets to his feet, where he clinches with Swanson in the middle of the cage. Swanson lands a punch to the body, disengages and takes a deep breath. Choi is still swinging punches with his mouth wide open, and still eating punches, too. Choi ducks under a Swanson punch and gets a waistlock then rolls him to the ground, but Swanson is back on his feet within seconds. Swanson knocks Choi backward with a right hook, then slams Choi with a straight right on the fence. Choi is somehow still standing as Swanson decks him with another right hand, now an uppercut. Swanson finishes the fight by running Choi to the ground and landing some heavy ground punches.

Donald Cerrone vs. Matt Brown

Round 1

Cerrone slips a right hand and grabs for an early double-leg, but Brown gets and underhook and shoves him away. Cerrone stings Brown with a body kick, follows with a partially landed head kick and then puts "The Immortal" in backpedal mode with a nasty left hook. Cerrone begins to charge forward with follow-up punches, but a cracking counter from Brown makes "Cowboy" slow his roll. Brown pushes forward now with a right straight, a left hook. The faces of both welterweights are marked up and reddened just two minutes into the bout. Cerrone goes upstairs with a head kick, sticks Brown with a few jabs but has to back up as Brown preses in. Brown scores with a hook to the body but slips to the ground throwing a high kick. Cerrone tries to pounce and falls straight into a triangle choke, but Brown isn't able to lock it up. As Cerrone goes to stand, Brown switches to an armbar, but "Cowboy" pulls free. The 170-pounders continue to trade punches down the stretch, and it's Brown who gets the final word with a Superman right and a takedown behind it.

Cerrone grabs Brown in the Thai clinch, but it's Brown scoring with a knee to the ribs. They reset in the center, where Brown snaps back Cerrone's head with a long left jab. Cerrone hits the deck after a right hand bounces off his temple, but he springs back to his feet. Cerrone returns the favor by knocking down Brown with a left head kick-straight right hand, but Brown powers right back to his feet. "Cowboy" looks to be turning the tide here, lunging at Brown with long punches, forcing the welterweight mainstay to wheel away. Brown is leaking blood from his right eye now, but still jabbing back at Cerrone as they hit the final 90 seconds of round two. Cerrone goes back upstairs with a head kick and then clips the incoming Brown with a left hand on the temple. Brown steps inside with a slashing elbow strike, misses on a second and gets popped with a Cerrone jab on the way out. Cerrone forces Brown to circle away with a straight left, then forces Brown to block a left high kick.

UFC Interim 145-Pound Title Fight: Anthony Pettis vs. Max Holloway

Round 1

Yves Lavigne is the referee for tonight's 145-pound interim title bout, in which only Max Holloway is eligible to win gold due to Anthony Pettis missing weight. Holloway takes the center of the cage and trades a few leg kicks with Pettis, who tests the range with a jab. Pettis throws a pair of low kicks and then goes to the body with a switch kick to finish a lovely combination. Holloway takes a big step forward to create space and then slings a long right hand into Pettis' breadbasket. Pettis knocks the Hawaiian backward with a spinning kick to the midsection, but Holloway comes right back to clip Pettis with a straight right. Down to the final 90 seconds of the opening round, the featherweights continue to dance in and out of range. Holloway scores with a left hook, and Pettis shoots for a takedown just before the horn but can't complete it.

Round 2

Holloway scores a knockdown with a straight right early in round two, but Pettis is alert as soon as he hits the ground. Holloway backs up, allowing Pettis to stand, and now it's Pettis pushing forward, walking down "Blessed" with punches and stomping kicks. Holloway continues to get the better of the exchanges with his counterpunches, however, and the right eye of Pettis looks to be swelling rapidly as it continues to absorb strikes. Halfway through the round, Pettis keeps walking forward and keeps walking into punches from Holloway, now aimed mostly at the body of the former lightweight champ. Holloway, by contrast, seems to be absorbing relatively little damage as he works off his back foot, though Pettis is landing some solid kicks to the midsection. Holloway slips another punch, feeds Pettis a combination, but "Showtime" walks through the strikes to wrap up the Hawaiian on the fence. Pettis drops to try a single-leg, switches to a double but has his hands peeled away. Holloway tries to spin away but is still tied up by Pettis at the end of the round.

Round 3

Pettis forces Holloway backward with front kicks to the body, but as soon as Holloway's back nears the fence, the Hawaiian pushes back to the center and slugs Pettis with a left hand. The featherweights tie up and Holloway throws a knee inside which lands on Pettis' cup. Pettis is hurt but recovers quickly; he comes back and gets his guard split by a Holloway right hand. They tie up briefly, Pettis separating with a high kick which narrowly misses. Holloway hits a nifty foot sweep with 3:15 left in the round but allows Pettis to stand right away. Pettis gets an underhook and pushes Holloway against the fence, where Holloway may be looking to tee up Pettis for a knee. Pettis keeps his head tucked and eventually breaks away with just over two minutes remaining. Holloway lands a hard kick to the body, a ripping left hand to the gut. "Blessed" hits the trip again and comes down to the ground, but again he allows Pettis to stand. Holloway is scoring consistently with kicks to the body, and now Pettis is hurt, backing up to the wall. Pettis is doubled over as Holloway swings away: a left to the temple, a right to the body, left to the body, then more and more punches until finally referee Yves Lavigne pulls him away. Max Holloway takes the UFC interim featherweight title and will attempt to unify the belts when he fights Jose Aldo in 2017.

The Official Result

Max Holloway def. Anthony Pettis via TKO (Kick to the Body and Punches) R3 4:50
