UFC 202 Bonuses: McGregor, Diaz, Johnson, Cerrone Receive $50K Awards

Although the “Fight of the Night” bonus only represents a fraction of their total earnings at UFC 202, for Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz, the honor was well deserved.

McGregor and Diaz pocketed $50,000 apiece for their headlining welterweight bout at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night. Eventually, their rematch will likely be up for “Fight of the Year,” as well. McGregor stormed out of the gates, dropping his foe three times in the first two frames. Diaz rallied in typical fashion, however, and he kept the pressure on his opponent for the full 25 minutes. This time, McGregor had enough left in reserve to win a majority decision.

Meanwhile, Anthony Johnson made a resounding case for another light heavyweight title shot against Daniel Cormier, as he knocked out Glover Teixeira in 13 seconds in the evening’s co-headliner. In addition to making a statement at 205 pounds, “Rumble” received a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” award for his powerful uppercut KO.

Finally, Donald Cerrone continued his successful foray at 170 pounds, as he garnered the evening’s other $50,000 “Performance of the Night” check for his second-round TKO of Rick Story in a featured contest. A multi-strike combination sealed the deal for “Cowboy,” who put his foe away with a head kick and follow-up punches at the 2:02 mark of the period.
