UFC 190 Medical Suspensions: Claudia Gadelha, Jessica Aguilar Facing 6-Month Layoffs

Strawweights Claudia Gadelha and Jessica Aguilar could be sidelined for six months due to injuries suffered in their three-round scrap at last weekend’s UFC 190.

The Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission (CABMMA) on Monday released its list of medical suspensions from the event, which took place Aug. 1 at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro.

Gadelha, who earned a convincing unanimous decision after three rounds of strong striking and well-timed takedowns, was given a 180-day suspension but can return to action sooner if her left hand is cleared by X-ray. The Nova Uniao fighter was seen backstage after the event sporting a splint on the hand. Aguilar, meanwhile, will need to have X-ray clearance of her nose, which was busted and bloodied by Gadelha’s strikes.

Other fighters facing potential six-month stints on the sidelines include winning light heavyweight Patrick Cummins (nasal fracture) and “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil” bantamweight finalists Reginaldo Vieira (nose) and Dileno Lopes (nasal fracture).

UFC 190 was headlined by Ronda Rousey; unsurprisingly, the women’s bantamweight champion suffered little damage in her 34-second wipeout of challenger Bethe Correia. Rousey was handed a 30-day suspension with no contact in training for 21 days, while Correia must sit out 45 days with no contact for 30 days.
