For the second time in 24 months, the Ultimate Fighting Championship has been forced to cancel an event.
The organization Tuesday announced that UFC 176, which was to take place at Staples Center in Los Angeles, has been “postponed.” The pay-per-view card was set to be headlined by featherweight champion Jose Aldo’s rematch with top contender Chad Mendes, but Aldo withdrew from the bout last week after suffering a neck and cervical injury in training.

The announcement also noted that the Aug. 30 event in Sacramento, Calif., will remain titled UFC 177.
In August 2012, the promotion was forced to cancel an event for the first time in 11 years when then-light heavyweight contender Dan Henderson withdrew from UFC 151 and champion Jon Jones declined a fight with late replacement Chael Sonnen.
