UFC 174 Weigh-in Results: Demetrious Johnson, Ali Bagautinov Hit Title-Clash Targets

Some view him as the most complete fighter in mixed martial arts, and Demetrious Johnson has had the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s 125-pound weight class under his thumb for the better part of two years.

Johnson checked in at 125 pounds for his five-round title defense against Dagestani sambo stylist Ali Bagautinov (124.5) in the UFC 174 main event on Saturday at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Welterweight co-headliners Rory MacDonald (171) and Tyron Woodley (170.5) also met their mandatory weight requirements at Friday’s official weigh-in.

A Matt Hume disciple, Johnson will enter the cage on the strength of five consecutive wins. “Mighty Mouse” last appeared at UFC on Fox 9 in December, when he knocked out Team Alpha Male’s Joseph Benavidez a little more than two minutes into their rematch at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, Calif. Johnson, 27, also owns victories against “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 14 winner John Dodson, former World Extreme Cagefighting bantamweight champion Miguel Torres, onetime Tachi Palace Fights titleholder Ian McCall and Arizona Combat Sports export John Moraga. He has compiled a 7-1-1 mark since arriving in the UFC in February 2011.

Bagautinov finds himself on an 11-fight winning streak as he approaches the most significant opportunity of his career. The two-time combat sambo world champion last fought at UFC 169 in February, when he captured a unanimous decision over brick-fisted Brazilian John Lineker at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Bagautinov has secured nine of his 13 professional victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission, six of them inside one round. The 29-year-old owns a perfect 3-0 record in the Octagon.

UFC 174 “Johnson vs. Bagautinov” -- which airs live on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT -- will also feature a heavyweight clash pitting returning former champion Andrei Arlovski (249.5) against “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 finalist Brendan Schaub (238) and a pair of light heavyweight scraps, as onetime Strikeforce titleholder Rafael Cavalcante (204.5) meets Ryan Bader (205) and Ovince St. Preux (205) faces Canadian karateka Ryan Jimmo (204.5).

Two hours prior, the FX network will carry four preliminary matchups: Daniel Sarafian (171) vs. Kiichi Kunimoto (170), Valerie Letourneau (134.5) vs. Elizabeth Phillips (135), Yves Jabouin (136) vs. Mike Easton (135) and Kajan Johnson (155) vs. Tae Hyun Bang (156). Two remaining undercard bouts will stream to UFC Fight Pass at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT, as Roland Delorme (135) locks horns with unbeaten former Pacific Xtreme Combat champion Michinori Tanaka (135) and Jason Saggo (155.5) collides with Bellator MMA alum Josh Shockley (155.5).
