Chris Beal vs. Patrick Williams

Round 1

Williams changes levels for a shot, comes back up and throws a low kick that lands on Beal’s cup. Williams tries to jump on his injured opponent’s back and sink in a rear-naked choke, but referee Herb Dean recognizes the foul and pauses the fight. Beal takes a minute to recover and comes back out stalking Williams, creeping in to throw hands. It’s Williams who lands a clean uppercut and a takedown, though, and then grabs Beal in a headlock as they scramble back up. The bantamweights trade hard right hands after they separate. Again, Beal chases after Williams, and again Williams lands a hard right hand. Williams catches a kick and trips Beal to the canvas with just under two minutes left in the round. Beal powers back to his feet and jumps at Williams with a knee in the clinch. Beal keeps pressing forward and pops Williams with a combination, dodging the wrestler’s wide counters. The closing seconds of the round are wild, with Beal stinging the incoming Williams with another combination.

Danny Castillo vs. Charlie Brenneman

Round 1

Castillo lands an inside leg kick right off the bat, follows with another and shoots in for a double-leg. Brenneman pushes him off and changes levels for a takedown attempt of his own, and this one puts Castillo on his back. Brenneman quickly passes to side control on Castillo’s left side, where Castillo works from underneath by throwing horizontal elbows to the head of “The Spaniard.” Brenneman looks to be framing up an arm-triangle choke as he drives knees to Castillo’s body, but he releases in order to take full mount. As Brenneman looks for an armbar, Castillo slips out the back door and then keeps hold of Brenneman’s waist when they stand. Brenneman grabs the fence to defend a slam and then trips Castillo to the ground. The lightweights scramble up and reset on the feet with two minutes to go. Brenneman has a shot stuffed and counters right hand with a hard low kick. Castillo gives Brenneman a kick to the body and then defends a single-leg against the fence. Brenneman keeps working for the takedown and gets it. Brenneman takes back-mount as Castillo stands but soon slips off. Castillo reverses the position and tries a rear-naked choke but can’t secure the position before the horn.

Duke walks forward on Correia, who keeps her taller opponent out of range with leg kicks in the opening minute. Duke sticks a jab in the Brazilian’s face but isn’t offering much else in terms of offense through the first half of the round. Correia, meanwhile, is starting to mix in punches with her kicks, tagging Duke with a left hand on the chin after a particularly hard shot to Duke’s lead leg. A spinning back elbow grazes Duke, and the American smiles at her opponent. They clinch up briefly and Correia lands a short right hand on the split. Duke connects with a leg kick; Correia steps into the pocket with a clean left hook. Correia tries to repeat the feat in the closing seconds and runs into a jab, but she finishes strong with a pair of leg kicks.

Duke rolls to her knees and then stands. Correia tries to keep hold of Duke’s back and gets tossed to the canvas. Duke allows her to stand, and the women are back to striking with 1:40 remaining in the round. Correia scores with a right hand upstairs, lands a leg kick but eats a stiff counter jab. Duke tries the Thai clinch again, but Correia lands four punches over the top before Duke can throw a knee. Duke trips Correia to the ground with 1:45 left; five seconds later, Correia sweeps to top position. Duke tries to pull rubber guard, can’t do much with the position before being stood up by referee Kevin Mulhall. Correia sticks a right straight in Duke’s face, pushes her against the fence. Vallie-Flagg presses forward, throwing kicks at Gomi’s body before slipping to the ground. Gomi allows him to stand, fakes a right to the body and comes upstairs with a hard left. Vallie-Flagg lands a hard body kick, connects with a right hand to Gomi’s cheek. Vallie-Flagg ducks in behind a stiff right straight, tries for a single-leg, can’t get it. Gomi is leaking blood from his nose as he continues to backpedal and hunt for counters. Vallie-Flagg slips on another kick, and this time Gomi follows to the mat to set up in the American’s guard. Vallie-Flagg scoots over to the cage and rolls to his knees, where Gomi jumps on his back and sinks in both hooks. Vallie-Flagg defends against a rear-naked choke and punches over his shoulder as “The Fireball Kid” continues looking for a submission. Vallie-Flagg twists out and explodes to his feet with 45 seconds on the clock. Gomi lands a big leg kick and a right hook on the temple. Gomi sends a left straight to the head of Vallie-Flagg, who returns fire with a leg kick at the horn.

The lightweights square off in the center of the cage and Gomi knocks Vallie-Flagg backward with a huge overhand right. Vallie-Flagg comes up short with a front kick to the body and eats another right hand, then another. Gomi sends a left straight down the center and follows with a leg kick before clinching Vallie-Flagg against the cage. Gomi has his jab working now, cutting off Vallie-Flagg when the Greg Jackson student steps into the pocket. Gomi scores with a left to the body and now Vallie-Flagg is backing up. Vallie-Flagg comes back to sock Gomi with a right straight, a front kick to the breadbasket and a jab. Both men stick jabs and Gomi draws a deep breath before catching another on the nose. Gomi strings together a nice punching combo and puts Vallie-Flagg on the fence again. Referee Dean warns Gomi against grabbing the fence, and the lightweights separate. Down to the final 20 seconds and Gomi cracks Vallie-Flagg with a heavy left hand. Vallie-Flagg heads back to his corner with a bloodied and swollen right eye.

Vallie-Flagg sends a straight right down the center, stuffs a takedown and appears to hurt Gomi with a body shot. Gomi falls to the ground and absorbs a dozen or so short punches while on his knees. Back up comes the former Pride star, and now Gomi initiates a clinch on the fence. Vallie-Flagg turns him around and they separate. Half a round remains and now Vallie-Flagg comes back to the clinch after both men score with punches in the pocket. Gomi turns it around, eats a knee to the gut and releases. Gomi connects with a jab, then puts a heavy combination on the face of Vallie-Flagg, worsening an already bloody cut. Both guys look exhausted with 90 seconds remaining, and Gomi takes the outside position in another tie-up on the fence. Elliott comes out bombing with left hands and rushes Benavidez to the ground. Benavidez powers back to his feet, taking a knee to the gut along the way. Elliott trips Benavidez to the ground and tries to hop on his back. Elliott winds up with a crucifix, trapping Benavidez’s left arm between his legs and pulling the Team Alpha Male fighter across the cage. Benavidez frees the arm and Elliott sets up on top, dropping a couple short punches before being kicked away. Benavidez escapes to his feet and has to cover up immediately as Elliott sticks a pair of punches in his face. Elliott double-legs Benavidez back to the ground midway through the frame and looks for the crucifix again. Benavidez rolls over and catches the kneeling Elliott in north-south position, threatening with a guillotine. Elliott puts his back on the mat and Benavidez goes to side control on the left side, still working for the guillotine. Benavidez passes to full mount with the guillotine locked in. Both of Elliott’s arms are trapped, so he kicks his legs wildly to signal submission to referee Mario Yamasaki.

Fili backs up Holloway with a leg kick, tries to go high and Holloway ducks under. Holloway steps into the pocket with a knee and gets wrapped up, then driven to the canvas. Fili sits in Holloway’s closed guard with 1:45 on the clock; 30 seconds of inactivity later, referee Kevin Mulhall stands them up. The New Jerseyan obliges, clinching Medeiros against the fence with an underhook and then tripping him to the mat. As Medeiros tries to stand, Miller drops to guard with a tight arm-in guillotine. Davis fends off “Rumble” with a teep kick but eats another uppercut when he steps inside. Johnson counters a body kick with a right hand over the top, and Davis backpedals to the fence. Johnson traps him against the fence and delivers four or five huge right hands, opening a cut near Davis’ left eye. Davis shoots low, gets stuffed and takes a hard leg kick as Johnson marches ahead. UFC Light Heavyweight Championship:
Jon Jones vs. Glover Teixeira

Round 1

Jones lands an early switch kick to the right side of Teixeira’s body and follows up with a hook. Another body kick connects and now Teixeira stands back for a moment instead of continuing to wade into the pocket. Teixeira stuffs a shot from Jones but gets backed up toward the fence. The 205ers work back to the center of the Octagon, where Teixeira puts a right hand on Jones’ body. Teixeira catches Jones ducking down and grazes with a right hand, then kicks the champ in the body on the left side. Now it’s Jones’ turn to stuff a single-leg shot from Teixeira. Midway through the opening round, Jones slaps his challenger’s face with a right high kick. Teixeira takes a finger in his right eye but wants to fight on. Jones catches a kick and trips Teixeira to the ground, but they stand up almost immediately. Jones reaches with a long left and touches Teixeira’s chin. Jones pushes Teixeira away with a spinning back kick to the body, then dips out of range of the Brazilian’s retaliatory charge. Teixeira catches a kick on the shoulder and tries to take down Jones as the round ends.

Round 2

Teixeira walks forward on Jones and has to defend against an early double-leg attempt. Jones hops back to his feet and resumes kicking at Teixeira, then changes stance and sends a couple straight punches down the center. Jones is continually switching stances while doing well to avoid Teixeira’s power punches. Jones kicks at Teixeira’s legs and backs up to the fence, where referee Miragliotta pauses the action for another eye poke from Jones’ outstretched hand. Teixeira takes a moment to recover this time, and the ref warns Jones that another infraction will cost him a point. Action resumes and Jones pumps his jab, keeping Teixeira at bay. Teixeira keeps walking forward, though, and does get some hard punches in once he gets Jones’ back on the fence. A left hand to the body is enough to make Jones circle out. The champ seems to have recovered from any hard shots he took, enough to step in on Teixeira and deliver a sharp standing elbow. Jones gets into the pocket behind a spinning back kick and then presses Teixeira against the cage. Teixeira takes a couple elbows before escaping and just gets out of the way of a Jones wheel kick.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Jones
Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Jones
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Jones

Round 3

Teixeira is starting to throw some good combinations instead of single power punches, but Jones slows the Brazilian’s roll with more oblique and head kicks, not to mention sharp jabs. A popping right hand knocks out the mouthpiece of Teixeira; he replaces it and then stuffs a takedown attempt from Jones. The light heavyweights clinch on the cage, Jones on the outside. Teixeira appears to sting Jones with a couple uppercuts in the tie-up, and the champ backs away. Back to the clinch goes Jones, working Teixeira’s body with knees and stepping back to whack him with an elbow. More hard elbows in the clinch land for Jones, but now Teixeira is firing back with huge uppercuts. Jones takes control of his challenger’s wrists and throws knees low, exiting with a nice left hook. Teixeira is cut around his right eye now, leaking blood down his cheek and onto the face of Jones, who is back for more clinching. Jones lights up Teixeira with uppercuts to the body and head, then an elbow upstairs. Teixeira just eats up the shots and continues throwing his uppercuts, though he finishes the round with his back to the cage.

Jones keeps coming, controlling Teixeira’s wrists and throwing more elbows in the clinch. Teixeira breaks free and loses his mouthpiece after a hard jab; referee Miragliotta wants to wash it out, though Teixeira just wants to continue. Jones continues to hold out his long arm and flick at Teixeira with quick punches and kicks, both low and high. Teixeira’s offense is dropping off in the second half of the round, and when he does explode with a combination, Jones walks right through it. Once he gets into rage and puts Teixeira on the fence, Jones unloads with some heavy standing elbows that further bust up Teixeira’s already bloody face. Jones lands an uppercut, an elbow, two more elbows; Teixeira answers with an uppercut but still can’t find his way off the fence.

Nevertheless, Teixeira creates a little space and blasts Jones with a huge uppercut, then a left hook. Jones takes the shots and steps back in to dislodge Teixeira’s mouthpiece with another combination. Jones puts his hand on top of Teixeira’s head, and Teixeira answers with a big right hand around the outside. Another right lands for Teixeira, so Jones ducks down and then comes back up with an almost 6-to-12 elbow. Halfway through the final round, Teixeira decks the champ with another big uppercut, and now Jones takes a moment to lean on Teixeira in the clinch. Teixeira breaks out, eats a left and just dodges a leaping knee. Ninety seconds left now and Teixeira is loading up for a homerun shot, but his punches are disrupted by Jones’ feints and clinch. Jones buries his head in his own arms to defend against Teixeira’s only offense, power punches. Jones does a little sprint away and gets a shrug from Teixeira, who keeps hunting for a knockout to the final horn.
