Four men took home post-fight bonuses on Saturday night, as Junior dos Santos, Mark Hunt, Glover Teixeira and T.J. Grant each pocketed $50,000 for their efforts at UFC 160.
Grant and Teixeira were handed “Knockout of the Night” and “Submission of Night” for their respective finishes of Gray Maynard and James Te Huna, while dos Santos and Hunt walked away with “Fight of the Night” honors for their three-round heavyweight affair.
UFC 160 took place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and saw Cain Velasquez retain his UFC heavyweight title in the evening’s main event, stopping Antonio Silva just 81 seconds into their rematch.
Though Grant surprised the bookmakers with his finish of Maynard, it was “The Bully” who appeared to take control during the bout’s opening moments. The Canadian persevered, however, flooring Maynard twice in quick succession and then securing his title shot with ground-and-pound just 2:07 into the opening stanza.
Dos Santos’ victory over Hunt in the co-headliner took considerably longer, but “Cigano” nevertheless managed to finish the notoriously durable New Zealander in round three. After rocking “The Super Samoan” with a hard left hook and right hand, dos Santos unleashed a spinning hook kick that put Hunt on the mat, where he lay prone as dos Santos knocked him cold with a pair of powerful punches.
Teixeira (Pictured, file photo) made quick work of Te Huna, taking the power puncher to the mat in the opening minutes of their light heavyweight confrontation. Though Te Huna gamely worked to his feet, the Brazilian caught him with an arm-in guillotine, pulled guard and elicited a tap at 2:38 of the first period.
