Jon Jones has been suspended indefinitely by the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board after suffering a broken big toe on his left foot at UFC 159.

NJSACB legal counsel Nick Lembo informed Sherdog.com of the UFC 159 medical suspensions on Saturday night. Jones’ suspension will stand until his foot is cleared by an orthopedic physician.

UFC 159 took place at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., and saw Jones successfully defend his light heavyweight title against Chael Sonnen in the evening’s main event, grounding his foe and firing away with ground-and-pound until referee Keith Peterson halted the contest with 27 seconds left in the first round. Sonnen received a 45-day suspension due to a facial laceration.

Co-headliner Alan Belcher was also handed an indefinite suspension by the NJSACB after he was accidentally poked in the eye by Michael Bisping in their middleweight showdown. Belcher, who dropped a technical decision to the Brit, must now receive ophthalmological clearance of his right eye before he can compete again.

Fourteen fighters in total were medically suspended, including main card competitors Phil Davis and Jim Miller, who joined Jones and Belcher with indefinite suspensions. While Davis took a clear-cut unanimous decision from Vinny Magalhaes, he must now nevertheless receive medical clearance on his left knee and thumb. Meanwhile, Miller must undergo a CT scan on his head and will sit out a minimum of 60 days to recover from his hard-fought technical submission defeat to Pat Healy.
