The UFC 156 main event saw Jose Aldo retain his featherweight crown with a five-round verdict against former 155-pound champion Frankie Edgar. Edgar must receive a facial CT scan to rule out a potential left orbital fracture; if he does not receive medical clearance he will not be able to return to the Octagon until Aug. 2. At a minimum, “The Answer” will be out of action until April 4.

Meanwhile, lightweight Evan Dunham, who scored a unanimous decision victory over Gleison Tibau in a preliminary contest, faces six months on the shelf after suffering a right orbital fracture. With doctor clearance he can compete as soon as April 4.

Francisco Rivera began the evening’s festivities with a second-round technical knockout triumph over Edwin Figueroa in a bantamweight tilt. Rivera must have his right hand or wrist x-rayed and cleared by a doctor or he will also be sidelined until Aug. 2. The minimum suspension for “Cisco” is March 20.
