It isn’t all bad news for Tyron Woodley.
After his scheduled UFC 192 matchup with Johny Hendricks was scrapped on the eve of the event, Woodley will receive the next welterweight title shot. A promotion official confirmed the news on Friday following an initial report from Yahoo Sports’ Kevin Iole.

That means Woodley will face the winner of the upcoming 170-pound title tilt between Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit, which takes place at UFC 195 in Las Vegas on Jan. 2. Woodley has won four of his last five in the Octagon, earning triumphs over Josh Koscheck, Carlos Condit, Dong Hyun Kim and Kelvin Gastelum.
Meanwhile, with Woodley-Hendricks off the UFC 192 bill, a flyweight clash pitting Joseph Benavidez against Ali Bagautinov has been elevated to the pay-per-view portion of Saturday’s card. The event is headlined by a light heavyweight championship clash between Daniel Cormier and Alexander Gustafsson.
