Alves has gone 2-2 in his last four outings. “Pitbull” most recently competed last month at UFC on FX 2, submitting to a last-minute Martin Kampmann guillotine choke after controlling the majority of their headlining contest.
Meanwhile, Akiyama has lost four straight fights dating back to July 2010. Since earning a split decision over Alan Belcher in his Octagon debut, “Sexyama” has faltered against Chris Leben, Michael Bisping and Vitor Belfort. He dropped his welterweight debut to Jake Shields at February’s UFC 144.
Roop previously competed at lightweight before making the cut to 145 pounds. The Arizonan has lost two in a row, dropping a contentious split decision to Hatsu Hioki last October before suffering a technical knockout at the hands of Cub Swanson on Jan. 28.
A nine-year pro, Carvalho has competed for Shooto, TKO, Cage Force and Warrior-1 over the course of his career. Most recently, the Ontario native saw a three-fight winning streak snapped by Felipe Arantes, as Carvalho lost a unanimous decision to the Brazilian three months ago at UFC 142.
