‘The Ultimate Fighter 25’ Finale Prelims: Angela Hill Decisions Ashley Yoder for First UFC Win

Angela Hill finally got her hand raised under the Ultimate Fighting Championship flag.

A steady diet of leg kicks and punishing right hands spurred the former Invicta Fighting Championships strawweight titleholder to a unanimous decision over Ashley Yoder at “The Ultimate Fighter” 25 Finale on Friday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Hill (7-3) prompted 30-27 nods from all three judges, as she won for the fifth time in six outings and improved to 1-3 inside the Octagon.

Yoder (5-3) delivered takedowns in the first and second rounds but failed to corral the Alliance MMA standout. On the feet, Hill was the superior fighter. She blasted Yoder with right hands, circled out of danger and attacked her base with low kicks, steadily seizing control of the match. Hill even mixed in a third-round takedown for good measure.

Surgical Krause Dissects Gallicchio

James Krause outstruck Team Quest export Tom Gallicchio in a preliminary welterweight confrontation and walked away with a clear-cut unanimous decision. All three cageside judges scored it 30-27 for Krause (24-7), who finds himself on a three-fight winning streak.

Gallicchio (19-10) tripped the Newport News, Virginia, native to the floor in the first round and maneuvered to the back, briefly threatening to choke the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt. Krause stayed calm under duress, returned to his feet and spent two-plus rounds picking apart his “Ultimate Fighter” castmate with clean, accurate punches and a few sneaky kicks upstairs.

Krause now owns a 5-3 mark in the UFC.

Returning Dollaway Outlasts Herman

C.B. Dollaway snapped a three-fight losing streak in his first appearance since December 2015, as he pocketed a hard-earned unanimous decision over Ed Herman in a grueling three-round undercard tilt at 205 pounds. Dollaway (16-8) swept the scorecards with 29-28, 29-27 and 29-27 marks from the judges.

After struggling through the first five minutes, Herman (23-13) had “The Doberman” reeling in the second round but could not maintain his momentum. Dollaway assumed top position in the third, where he scrambled out of an attempted kimura and battered “The Ultimate Fighter 3” finalist with elbow-laden ground-and-pound from guard and half guard.

Herman, 36, has lost five of his past eight fights.

Torres Choke Submits Lima

“The Ultimate Fighter” Season 20 quarterfinalist Tecia Torres submitted Juliana Lima with a rear-naked choke in the second round of their preliminary women’s strawweight encounter. Lima (9-4), who had never before been finished, conceded defeat 53 seconds into Round 2.

A competitive first round saw Lima execute a takedown before the two women jockeyed for position in the clinch. Early in the second, Torres (9-1) sprawled on an attempted single-leg, transitioned to the back and cinched the choke in an exquisite sequence. After a brief struggle to free herself, Lima tapped.

A short-notice replacement for Amanda Ribas, Torres has rattled off two straight wins since her April 2016 decision loss to Rose Namajunas.

Maynard Bullies Overmatched Ishihara

Repeated takedowns and crushing top control carried three-time NCAA All-American wrestler Gray Maynard to a unanimous decision over Teruto Ishihara in a three-round undercard pairing at 145 pounds. All three cageside judges scored it the same: 30-26 for Maynard (13-6-1), who was awarded three 10-8 rounds.

Ishihara (9-4-2) never factored into the equation. Maynard struck for takedowns in all three rounds, controlled the Team Alpha Male export on the canvas and threw in a handful of submission attempts: an arm-triangle choke, a kimura and a guillotine. Though none were successful, they strengthened his case on the scorecards.

The 25-year-old Ishihara has dropped back-to-back bouts.
