Spike TV: 1 Million Viewers Tuned in to UFC 136 ‘Prelims Live’

Saturday’s UFC 136 “Prelims Live” special on Spike TV earned an average of 1 million viewers, the series’ lowest rating on the cable channel since it began airing in 2009.

Spike TV officials Tuesday announced the news, also revealing that the show posted a 0.8 household rating, as well as ratings of 1.24 and 1.0 in the Male 18-34 and M18-49 demographics, respectively.

UFC 118’s prelims previously held the lowest viewership figure on Spike, drawing 1.1 million sets of eyes. Spike’s most recent prelim broadcast prior to Saturday’s show drew a much greater audience, as 1.6 million average viewers tuned in for UFC 135 “Prelims Live.”

While the UFC 136 prelims marked the promotion’s least-watched special on Spike, it was not the lowest-rated “Prelims Live” show of all time. Airing on Ion Television in January and February of this year, UFC 125 and UFC 127 took in just 829,000 and 714,000 viewers, respectively. The series-high came just prior to the all-time low, as the UFC 126 prelims on Spike earned 2 million viewers this February.

Saturday’s telecast featured two bouts that went the distance. Anthony Pettis took home a hard-fought split decision victory over Jeremy Stephens, while Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace Demian Maia out-grappled countryman Jorge Santiago en route to a unanimous nod.
